10 New Rap and R&B Songs Out This Week

This week in hip hop, we got the anticipated sophomore album from UK rapper J Hus (read my first-impressions review in Notable Releases), album confirmation and lead single from Megan Thee Stallion, and new singles from Doja Cat, Rico Nasty, Wilma Archer/MF DOOM, Reason, YBN Nahmir, and more. Read on for all the rap and R&B we posted this week…

MEGAN THEE STALLION – “B.I.T.C.H.”

Megan Thee Stallion has been very busy this year already, but today she released her first proper single of 2020, “B.I.T.C.H.,” which is the first taste of her upcoming album Suga. It shows off a more laid-back side of Megan than you may be used to, and she’s got a real knack for this kinda thing too. The other stuff we know about Suga so far is that Kehlani and SZA are featured on it, and that Juicy J is producing. Stay tuned for more.

DOJA CAT – “BOSS B*TCH”

LA rapper Doja Cat has released a new song from the Birds of Prey soundtrack (which also includes that recent Megan Thee Stallion/Normani song), and this one finds her going in a more clubby direction than usual.

RICO NASTY – “IDGAF”

You might think a Rico Nasty song called “IDGAF” would be on her beastly aggressive side, but actually she channels her sugary, auto-tuned pop side on this one, and she’s great at that kind of thing too.

WILMA ARCHER – “LAST SNIFF” (ft. MF DOOM)

UK producer/multi-instrumentalist Wilma Archer (fka Slime) is set to release his first full-length album under his current moniker, A Western Circular, on April 3 via Domino imprint Weird World. Along with the announcement comes the string-laden single “Last Sniff” featuring underground rap legend MF DOOM, which you can read more about here.

REASON – “SHOW STOP”

TDE spitter Reason is back with a typically great new single, and this one features ad-libbing by his labelmate Kendrick Lamar.

YBN NAHMIR – “TALKIN”

The usually-more-pop-friendly YBN Nahmir goes hard on this one.

JHENE AIKO – “P*$$Y FAIRY (OTW)”

R&B singer Jhene Aiko is back with a new single, the sexed-up yet hauntingly atmospheric “P*$$Y FAIRY (OTW).”

THE COLLEAGUES ft. FREDDIE GIBBS – “RED VANS”

Freddie Gibbs continues his prolific and consistently great reign by cruising over this beat by production duo The Colleagues.

JAY WORTHY – “BULLSHIT” (ft. KAMAIYAH, prod. CARDO)

Jay Worthy of Compton duo LNDN DRGS taps Kamaiyah and producer Cardo for this hazy West Coast bounce.

KOTA THE FRIEND – LYRICS TO GO, VOL. 1

Brooklyn rapper Kota The Friend is back with a compilation of freestyles and loosies that show off his classic-style rhymes and ear for soulful production as well as anything on last year’s FOTO.
