11 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

MINERAL – “YOUR BODY IS THE WORLD”

After emo vets Mineral returned in November with their first song in 20 years, they’re now back today with its b-side, “Your Body Is The World.” Like a-side “Aurora,” “Your Body Is The World” is a little poppier than Mineral were in the ’90s and Chris Simpson’s voice is more in the forefront, but that trademark, impassioned sound is still there.

AXL ROSE – “ROCK THE ROCK” (FT LOONEY TUNES)

Speaking of minerals, Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose helps stop an asteroid from crashing into the earth the only way he knows how in a new Looney Tunes short. That way is to “Rock the Rock” which takes the tradition of rock songs about rocking to a new level. It’s very AC/DC, which he has a little experience with. It’s his first new song in over 10 years, for what it’s worth.

FUTURE – “CRUSHED UP”

Having released a French Montana collab on New Year’s Eve, Future now announced a new album (due January 18 via Epic/Freebandz) and released another new single, “Crushed Up.” Compared to the melancholic R&B of the latter, this new one sees Future more in his dirtier rap mode, and it comes with a very expensive-looking video.

LIZZO – “JUICE”

Lizzo’s newest single is a catchy, nostalgic romp through a video of ’80s television scenarios directed by Quinn Wilson. It’s an incredibly fun time all around and just the kind of winter pick-me-up we could all use this January.

GARBAGE – “DESTROYING ANGELS” FT. JOHN DOE & EXENE CERVENKA

Originally a 2018 Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive 7″, Garbage have now made “Destroying Angels” available digitally as well. They co-wrote the song with X’s John Doe and Exene Cervenka, who also sing on it, giving the proceedings an extra-smoky hue.

HAUNT – “RUN AND HIDE” & “IT’S IN MY HANDS”

Haunt, the classic-metal revival band of Beastmaker frontman Trevor William Church, are releasing the Moasic Visions EP on January 14 and the If Icarus Could Fly full-length on May 17, and they’re now streaming two songs from the full length. As you’d expect from Haunt, these are arena-ready songs that sound straight out of the late ’70s/early ’80s, but even if it’s nothing you haven’t heard before, Haunt do it super well.

OSSUARIUM – “CORROSIVE HALLUCINATIONS”

Portland death-doomers Ossuarium are set to follow their much-praised 2017 demo with their debut album Living Tomb on February 1 via the great 20 Buck Spin label, and today they shared second single “Corrosive Hallucinations.” It starts off as grimy as can be but it transforms into something more atmospheric and majestic. It’s cool stuff. Listen at Revolver and it will soon be available (along with lead single “Blaze of Bodies”) via Bandcamp below.

THE FLESH EATERS – “BLACK TEMPTATION”

The reunited L.A. supergroup The Flesh Eaters — featuring John Doe & DJ Bonebrake of X, Dave Alvin & Bill Bateman of The Blasters, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, and punk poet Chris D — are gearing up to release I Used to Be Pretty, their first LP in 35 years, this month. Here’s another taste with this song that goes from more atmospheric verses to anthemic, rocking choruses. Listen via The Big Takeover.

D’ANGELO – “UNSHAKEN”

Back in October, D’Angelo snuck the new acoustic guitar-backed song “Unshaken” onto Red Dead Redemption 2. An unofficial stream surfaced online, but now the song is officially out on streaming services so go ahead and add this one to your Spotify and Apple Music playlists.

OH LAND – “HUMAN ERROR”

Danish singer and composer Nanna Øland Fabricius has announced a followup to her 2014 album Earth Sick. Family Tree was produced by Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) and comes out on May 3. Its first single, “Human Error,” is a ballad with beautiful, lush strings. “Working with Thomas allowed me to create an album that’s more organic, and more cinematic, than anything I’ve ever done before,” Nanna said of her new music.
