11 New Rap Songs Out This Week
This week included new music from Chance the Rapper, slowthai, Kool Keith, Ghostface Killah and RZA, Rapsody, GoldLink and more. Read on for all the hip hop we posted on BV this week…
QUAVO – “TOO MUCH SHAFT” (FT. SAWEETIE)
A month ahead of the upcoming Shaft reboot with Samuel L Jackson, Method Man and more comes this soundtrack cut from the Quavo, featuring rising rapper Saweetie. The pair have worked together before; Quavo features on two songs of Saweetie’s EP from earlier this year, Icy.

CHANCE THE RAPPER – “GROCERIES” (FEAT. TISAKOREAN & MURDA BEATZ)
Chance the Rapper has been teasing a follow-up to his 2016 album Coloring Book for this summer. Following a recent collaboration with Lil Yachty and a guest spot on a Supa Bwe track, he’s shared this new song with Tisakorean and Murda Beatz.

DJ KHALED – FATHER OF ASAHD (ALBUM STREAM)
DJ Khaled’s eleventh album comes with an all-star list of guests, including Cardi B, SZA, Nipsey Hussle, Meek Mill, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Future, Chance the Rapper, Quavo, Big Sean, Travis Scott, and more.

SLOWTHAI – “GLORIOUS” (ft. SKEPTA)
UK rapper slowthai’s anticipated debut album Nothing Great About Britain came out today, but ahead of its release he shared one last single, “Glorious,” which features influential grime vet Skepta. They unsurprisingly sound great together, and the video (directed by Crowns & Owls) makes allusions to A Clockwork Orange and Inglorious Basterds. In other news, slowthai was just on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show yesterday and offered up an “Old Town Road” remix on the show.

OPEN MIKE EAGLE – “LIT” (ft. FATHER)
Each episode of Open Mike Eagle and Baron Vaughn’s Comedy Central show The New Negroes features a series of stand-up comedians and then ends with an original song/video by Open Mike Eagle and a new guest artist each week. This week’s episode features the song “Lit” with Father, which makes deadpan observations about how so much of partying is really just sitting on a couch, and some trippy animation is involved in the Lance Bangs-directed video.

GHOSTFACE KILLAH & RZA – “ON THAT SHT AGAIN”
The Wu-Tang Clan are having a very busy year, and that includes the release of their new Showtime documentary Of Mics and Men and the accompanying soundtrack EP that drops this Friday. Ghostface and RZA have now shared “On That Sht Again” from that EP, and it’s a head-nodding throwback to the Wu’s classic ’90s era, and it sounds just about as fired-up as they did back then.

AMINE – “PLACES + FACES FREESTYLE”
Aminé has been blowing up fast and touring the world, and now he released a new freestyle about his new lifestyle featuring lots of footage from his travels, both on and off stage. It’s a fun, celebratory song, and Aminé has definitely earned his bragging rights.

LONDON ON DA TRACK & G-EAZY – “THROW FITS” (ft. CITY GIRLS, JUVENILE)
London On Da Track and G-Eazy channel New Orleans bounce on their new collaborative single, and they’ve brought in the rising City girls and New Orleans vet Juvenile to help them out. The song sounds as much like a party as the video looks.

KOOL KEITH – “ZERO FUX” (ft. B-REAL)
Abstract rap legend Kool Keith is releasing a new album called KEITH on July 12 via Mello Music Group. The entire album was produced by Psycho Les of the Beatnuts, and guests include Paul Wall, Jeru the Damaja, and Cypress Hill’s B-Real, the latter of whom is on the psychedelic, head-nodding lead single “Zero Fux.” Keith’s been at it for over three decades, and he still sounds more fired-up than some rappers half his age.

RAPSODY – “PHYLICIA” (ft. BUDDY)
Rapsody celebrated Mother’s Day with a song about her mother, “Phylicia,” featuring a hook from Compton rapper/singer Buddy. Over a head-nodding, funk-tinged beat from frequent collaborator 9th Wonder, Rapsody delivers sentimental lyrics about her mother and she sounds as sharp as ever in the process.

GOLDLINK – “ZULU SCREAMS” (ft. MALEEK BERRY, BIBI BOURELLY)
DC rapper GoldLink follows January’s “Got Muscle” with his second proper single of 2019, “Zulu Screams,” featuring Afro-pop singer Maleek Berry and R&B singer Bibi Bourelly (who, among other things, co-wrote Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money”). The song’s got an Afrobeat bounce that’s perfect for Maleek’s hook, and GoldLink’s rhymes sound great over this kind of thing too.
