12 New Songs Out Today

HANA - HALADRIEL

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

SEBASTIAN – “DOORMAN” (ft. SYD)

French Touch artist SebastiAn’s new album Thirst comes out this Friday via Ed Banger/Because Music, and one of its most anticipated collaborations — the song with Syd from The Internet — has now been released. Syd gives an airy, ethereal performance, and SebastiAn matches it with an atmospheric backdrop.

HANA – HANADRIEL

Grimes collaborator HANA made the shimmering electro-pop of her new album, HANADRIEL, over the course of four weeks, streaming the process on Twitch. “It really pounded into people’s heads that I do a lot of work by myself,” she told Paper. “I don’t think this is that big of a deal really, but I do find it interesting that people don’t believe that I produce, or they assume my collaborators have done most of the work.”

THE RENTALS – “SPACESHIPS”

Matt Sharp is releasing a new Rentals double album with Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner on guitar, The Killers’ Ronnie Vannucci on drums, and Flaming Lips collaborator Dave Fridmann as mixing engineer, and he’s rolling out a new song every two weeks. Read more about the ambitious project here.

HAZEL ENGLISH – “SHAKING”

LA’s Hazel English released a double EP, Just Give In / Never Going Home, in 2017, and she’s returned with her first new single since then, “Shaking.” It was written with Blake Stranathan (Lana Del Rey’s touring guitarist) and producer Justin Raisen, and about the song, Hazel says, “‘Shaking’ presents the promise of spiritual awakening as a kind of seduction in order to lull the individual into false truths about themselves and the world around them. It’s meant to be a playful, tongue-in-cheek song so mostly I hope people get some fun out of it.”
