12 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

CULT LEADER – “ISOLATION IN THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY”

Cult Leader’s new album A Patient Man comes out this Friday (11/9) via Deathwish, and they’ve shared another track from it, “Isolation In The Land Of Milk And Honey.” It starts out on the band’s blasty hardcore side, but it turns into something much slower and more atmospheric. It’s a journey, and a real beast of a song.

IDK – “ONCE UPON A TIME” (ft. DENZEL CURRY)

IDK’s new guest-filled IDK & Friends EP comes out this Friday (11/9), and he’s shared the Denzel Curry collaboration from it, “Once Upon A Time.” It sounds like a futuristic update of ’90s boom bap, with IDK and Denzel trading verses and one-upping each other each time.

J.I.D – “OFF DEEZ” (ft. J. COLE)

Fast-talking Atlanta rapper J.I.D is gearing up to release his new album DiCaprio 2, and after recently sharing “151 Rum” from that album, he’s now back with second single “Off Deez.” This one features his Dreamville label boss J. Cole, who saved one of his most ruthless verses of 2018 for this song, but he can’t stop his increasingly talented signee from stealing the show.

KNXWLEDGE – “DOUWRONG_”

The great hip hop producer Knxwledge returned today with a new single, “douwrong_.” It’s a chilled-out, atmospheric dose of lo-fi soul and very worth hearing.

LIL DURK – “INDIA PT. II”

Chicago rapper Lil Durk is gearing up to release his Signed To The Streets 3 mixtape and he shared this new song from it, which finds him in auto-tuned, sing-rap mode.

THE ORIELLES – “BOBBI’S SECOND WORLD” & “IT MAKES YOU FORGET (ITGEHANE)”

UK group The Orielles, who released their charming, post-punk-inspired debut LP earlier this year, added a new keyboardist to the group which has already lead to a burst of creative energy, as these two brand new tracks show.  “Bobbi’s Second World” is a sassy and danceable original about a cat; and they’ve covered Peggy Gou’s house jam “It Makes Your Forget (itgehane).” We like the direction The Orielles are heading.

SKINNY GIRL DIET – “SHED YOUR SKIN”

Punky UK duo Skinny Girls Diet — aka sisters Delilah and Ursula Holiday — return with new album Ideal Woman which will get a U.S. release in January via Happy Happy Birthday to Me. Get a taste right now with this fuzzed out, attitude-heavy ripper. Meanwhile, Delilah just made a great new album with Baxter Dury and Etienne de Crecy.

FASHION BRIGADE – “KISSYFACE” REMIXES BY TYLER POPE & THOR HARRIS

Elia Einhorn of Scotland Yard Gospel Choir has a new collaborative project called Fashion Brigade whose debut LP, due next year, features help from Frankie Cosmos, Shamir, X’s Exene Cervenka and more. Meanwhile, there’s a maxi-xingle out this Friday that features two originals, “Fvck the Heartache” and “Kissyface,” plus two remixes of the latter which have just been shared. LCD Soundsystem’s Tyler Pope takes “Kissyface” into early-’90s dubby dance territory, while Thor Harris (Swans, Shearwater) chills things out considerably. It’s like the start and end to a big night out.

PIROSHKA (MEMBERS OF LUSH/MOOSE/ELASTICA/ MODERN ENGLISH) – “EVERLASTINGLY YOURS”

Piroshka, the new band formed by Lush’s Miki Berenyi, Moose’s KJ McKillop, Elastica’s Justin Welch and Modern English’s Mick Conroy, will release their debut LP in February and first single “Everlastingly Yours” makes us pretty excited to hear the rest. Read more here.

TELETHON – “UR SCHEDULE”

“Ur Schedule” is the latest single off Milwaukee power popsters Telethon’s new Modern Abrasive EP, which comes out this Friday. We wrote more about it here.
