12 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

RUSTIN MAN – “VANISHING HEART”

Rustin Man (aka longtime Talk Talk bassist Paul Webb) is releasing his first album since 2002’s Out of Season (which was a collaboration with Portishead’s Beth Gibbons). It’s called Drift Code and due February 1 via Domino, and the first single is the appealingly atmospheric “Vanishing Heart, which kinda has Blackstar-era Bowie vibes.

MIKE WILL MADE-IT – “RUNNIN” (ft. A$AP ROCKY, A$AP FERG, NICKI MINAJ)

Another song has been released from Mike WiLL Made-It’s soundtrack for the new Creed II movie. This one’s a stacked posse cut with A$AP Mob’s two most famous members and Nicki Minaj, and it’s a brooding, ominous song that finds all three rappers at their most menacing.

TORRES – “TWO OF EVERYTHING”

Torres shared a new song, “Two of Everything,” exclusively with subscribers to her Patreon back in September, and now she’s released it beyond Patreon as well. “Two of Everything” continues Torres’ exploration of the art rock style she delved into on her 2017 album Three Futures.

WARFARE – DECLARATION (EP STREAM)

Massachusetts hardcore crushers Warfare (who are fronted by Triple B Records owner Sam Yarmuth and feature Trapped Under Ice/Angel Du$t frontman Justice Tripp on guitar) have dropped a ripping new 8-song EP. After a brief red herring of an intro, it goes from 0 to 100 and stays there for its entire pummeling running time.

TYLER, THE CREATOR – “LIGHTS ON” (ft. SANTIGOLD & RYAN BEATTY)

Tyler, The Creator is not only releasing new music for the soundtrack for the new Grinch remake, he’s also putting out a Grinch-inspired EP called Music Inspired By Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch this Friday. He just shared “Lights On” from that EP, which features the great genre-defying Santigold and Radio Disney star turned Brockhampton collaborator Ryan Beatty.

GUCCI MANE – “I’M NOT GOIN'” (ft. KEVIN GATES)

Gucci Mane’s new album Evil Genius comes out December 7, and Gucci has now shared another single from it, “I’m Not Goin’.” This one features Kevin Gates, whose fast-talking style makes for a nice contrast with Gucci’s sleepier flow.

TINY RUINS – “SCHOOL OF DESIGN”

Auckland, New Zealand’s Tiny Ruins are releasing a new album, Olympic Girls, on February 1, and they’ve shared its third single, the melancholy folk tune “School of Design.” Singer-songwritter Hollie Fullbrook says, “the lyrics came from a real experience where I did find myself wandering around an empty design school in a foreign city while on tour…it’s a song about systems, about the confining nature of systems, and wanting to find a new way.”

SQUALUS – “FOURTH OF JULY”

Current Khorada vocalist and former Giant Squid vocalist Aaron John Gregory also leads the band Squalus with his former Giant Squid bandmates Zach Farwell (drums) and Andrew Southard (keys), along with bassist Bryan Beeson, and they’re releasing a split with Shadow Limb on December 14 via Translation Loss. Today they shared the off-kilter, synth-fueled prog metal of “Fourth of July” from that split. “For those who don’t know, our 2017 debut record, The Great Fish… is a retelling of Jaws,” Aaron told Decibel. “To fit it all on a single LP, we had to cut a song. The track ‘Fourth of July’—which recreates the early conversation between Mayor Vaughn and Sheriff Brody about shutting down the beaches—was originally supposed to be the second track on the album.”

FAYE WEBSTER – “KINGSTON”

Atlanta singer-songwriter Faye Webster has followed her self-titled 2017 sophomore album with a new single, “Kingston,” and the announcement that she’s signed to Secretly Canadian. “Kingston” is a smooth mixture of the twang of alt-country slide guitar with jazzy, soft rock saxophone and vocals.

SORRY GIRLS – “WAKING UP” & “EASIER”

Montreal dreampop duo Sorry Girls released two new singles via Arbutus Records, “Waking Up” and “Easier.” “‘Waking Up’ describes the feeling of being stuck in a situation that feels helpless and never-ending and ultimately realizing it doesn’t have to be that way. The song is about allowing yourself to break out of the world you feel suffocated by to create the one that you want,” the band told Gorilla Vs Bear.

NORMANI – “WAVES” (ft. 6LACK)

Normani of Fifth Harmony is reportedly working on her debut solo album, and she just shared the new song “Waves” which features 6LACK and which is a nice dose of cold, atmospheric R&B. She’s also set to open Ariana Grande’s tour.
