13 New Metal Songs Out This Week

It was a good week for new metal albums. I reviewed the final Cave In album with Caleb Scofield and Fuming Mouth’s killer debut for Notable Releases, and you can also catch up on other new metal albums like Pelican, Consummation, Fetid, Enthroned, Gravefields, and more over at Invisible Oranges’ ‘Upcoming Metal Releases’ column. Be sure to check out IO’s interview with Pelican too. As for this week’s new singles, we got rippers from The Armed, Torche, Wear Your Wounds, Falls of Rauros, Melvins & Flipper, Wormed, Destruction, Abbath, and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…

THE ARMED – “FT. FRANK TURNER”

The Armed are one of the more unique punk/metal bands around, and their spastic new single “FT. FRANK TURNER” (which apparently has caused some controversy with the real Frank Turner, who is apparently sampled on this song) only continues to prove that.

TORCHE – “TIMES MISSING”

Torche have shared a second single off Admission, and this one sees them taking their sound a little closer to the recent boom of Hum-like sludgy shoegaze. Torche are just as good at this kinda thing as they are at their faster-paced “bubblegum sludge,” as you can hear below. Torche also gearing up to tour with Wear Your Wounds. Speaking of…

WEAR YOUR WOUNDS – “SHRINKING VIOLET”

Wear Your Wounds, Converge frontman J Bannon’s solo-project-turned-full-band, have shared another single off their anticipated new album Rust On The Gates of Heaven and it’s a good one. It falls somewhere between post-rock, goth, prog, and classic metal, and Bannon & co. have no issue blending all these sounds seamlessly.

FALLS OF RAUROS – “MEMORY AT NIGHT”

Maine black metallers Falls of Rauros premiered new single “Memory At Night” over at Invisible Oranges, alongside an interview with the band. Check it out HERE.

MELVINS & FLIPPER – “HOT FISH”

Melvins and Flipper teamed up for this collaborative song, which you can read more about here.

WORMED – “REMOTE VOID”

Spanish death metallers Wormed are releasing the Metalportal EP on July 19 via Season of Mist, and your first taste is new single “Remote Void.” It’s about as brutal and dense and claustrophobic as you’d expect from this band.

DESTRUCTION – “BORN TO PERISH”

German thrash vets Destruction are releasing their new album and first with ex-Annihilator drummer Randy Black, Born To Perish, on August 9 via Nuclear Blast. “The title track was the first song we wrote for the new record and it definitely shows the strength that Destruction has in 2019,” said frontman Schirmer. “It immediately set the bar high for the rest of the album. It features everything that we stand for: speed, picking, variety and punch. Randy came up with some very cool drum patterns and Damir offered up a really crunchy solo part, so both new members are heavily involved here!” Other than the modern production, it sounds right out of the band’s classic ’80s era, and that’s not a bad thing at all in Destruction’s case.

ABBATH – “OUTSTRIDER”

Abbath’s anticipated new album Outstrider comes out July 5 via Season of Mist, and the title track is streaming now. It’s a slower-paced song compared to the previous singles, but no less evil.

SANCTION – “RADICAL LACERATIONS”

Sanction are gearing up for the 2019 Pure Noise Tour with Stick To Your Guns, Counterparts, Terror, and Year of the Knife, and today they revealed that their new album Broken In Refraction will drop soon after the tour starts (due July 26 via Pure Noise). The new song is a real crusher complete with a pit-opening breakdown.

ENFORCED – “SKINNED ALIVE” (ft. DWID HELLION OF INTEGRITY)

Richmond thrashers Enforced are releasing new album At The Walls on July 19 via WAR Records, and it features artwork designed by Integrity frontman Dwid Hellion, who also contributes to lead single “Skinned Alive.” “Dwid was an absolute pleasure to work with,” Enforced vocalist Knox Colby tells Revolver. “As a lifelong Integrity fan, it was such an experience working alongside a personal hero of mine for the album artwork and the back-and-forth with the lyrics. Dwid was into what we wanted to achieve and hit all levels with the artwork and vocal delivery. I couldn’t be happier with what he gave us and I hope to collaborate more in the future.” Listen to the song HERE.

LUSSURIA – THREE KNOCKS

Dark ambient/noise artist Lussuria (aka Jim Mroz) returned with a new four-song album, Three Knocks, on Hospital Productions, which was written after Mroz’s grandmother was “suddenly stricken with an unexplained illness resulting in unconsciousness.” “When she came to,” the album description adds, “she relayed the tale of ‘three knocks’ to her son.”

STATIQBLOOM – “POSSESSION”

Brooklyn industrial duo Statiqbloom are releasing their new Sanford Parker-recorded album Asphyxia this Friday (6/7) via Metropolis Records, and its latest single is “Possession.” It’s abrasive and confrontational, but also ready for goth-populated dancefloors and eerily accessible.

CHELSEA WOLFE – “NIGHT OF THE VAMPIRE” (ROKY ERICKSON COVER)

Chelsea Wolfe honored the late Roky Erickson with a hauntingly beautiful cover of “Night of the Vampire,” which you can read more about here.
