It’s a big week for new metal, thanks in large part to the much-anticipated Baroness album. You can read an interview with Baroness at IO and see my review of the new album in this week’s Notable Releases, along with reviews of Pinkish Black, Abuse of Power, and more. For more new metal albums out this week, visit IO’s Upcoming Metal Releases with writeups on the new Hate, This Gift Is A Curse, and more. This week also gave us new singles from Pallbearer, Tomb Mold, Gatecreeper, Tau Cross, Death Before Dishonor, Here Lies Man, and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…

PALLBEARER – “ATLANTIS”

Pallbearer confirmed the release of their fourth album today, but while we wait for that, they’ve issued this new song as part of Sub Pop’s Singles Series. Read more here.

TOMB MOLD – “ACCELERATIVE PHENOMENAE”

Tomb Mold’s anticipated new album Planetary Clairvoyance comes out July 19 via 20 Buck Spin, and they’ve now shared another song from it, “Accelerative Phenomenae.” It’s an intense six and a half minutes that finds the middle ground between fretboard-racing death metal and punishing sludge, and guitarist Derrick Vella calls it “a vicious journey through the time tombs.” “It’s labyrinthian structure leaves you twisting and turning until the shrike has drained you of all your fluids,” he continues. “It’s a perfect representation of what we want to hear in a death metal song. It’s Tomb Mold, from start to finish.” Drummer/vocalist Max Klebanoff adds, “‘Accelerative Phenomenae’ is about the culminating event of sorrowful intimacies before your final meeting with death where the lines of self and other are blurred. Your senses are heightened during the final racing of pulses, your cumulative earthly doubts are cast aside to embrace an elegiac ultimate.”

GATECREEPER – “ANXIETY”

Not only does Spirit Adrift have a great new album out, but Nate Garrett’s other band Gatecreeper has been promising to follow 2016’s Sonoran Depravation with a new album this year, and while they haven’t released anything from it yet, they’re now sharing a non-album single from the same sessions. It’s called “Anxiety,” and it’s a real crusher that defies the death metal genre that Gatecreeper are often pigeonholed into. As vocalist Chase Mason explains, “We wrote and recorded this song together with all the songs for our upcoming album. Musically, this song is a little more adventurous than a normal Gatecreeper song. This was the last song that I had to finish lyrics for so I ended up writing it about all the stress and mental torment I had put myself through while working on the whole project. It’s oddly fitting that this is the first song to be heard from what we have been working on.” Album info like title and release date are still TBA, but stay tuned. Listen to the song below via Adult Swim.

TAU CROSS – “BURN WITH ME”

Amebix/Voivod-related punk/metal supergroup Tau Cross announced their third album and shared the ripping lead single, which we wrote more about here.

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR – “COWARDS WILL FALL”

Boston metallic hardcore band Death Before Dishonor will release their first album in a decade this July, and we wrote more about lead single “Cowards Will Fall” here.

HERE LIES MAN – “CLAD IN SILVER”

Antibalas-related band Here Lies Man aim to answer the question “what if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?” and they’re now gearing up to release the seven-song mini album No Ground To Walk Upon on August 16 via RidingEasy Records. The first single is the fuzzed-out, trippy “Clad In Silver.”

FULL OF HELL – “ANGELS GATHER HERE” (CONFINES REMIX)

Confines (David Castillo of Primitive Weapons, White Widows Pact, Saint Vitus Bar) took Full of Hell’s “Angels Gather Here” and turned it into a gothy industrial banger. Read more here.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE – “BULLSHIT DESTROYER”

Shai Hulud-related crossover thrashers Zombie Apocalypse just dropped their first song in 15 years, “Bullshit Destroyer,” which will appear on their upcoming Life Without Pain Is A Fucking Fantasy EP, due August 9 via Innerstrength Records. It’s exactly the kind of relentless, whiplash-inducing song you’d expect from this band.

OUTSIDER – “LIFE RUNS OUT”

Richmond metallic hardcore crew Outsider put out a buzzed-about demo last year, and now they’re set to release the When Love Dies EP on August 2 via Flatspot Records. The first/single opening track is “Life Runs Out,” which pairs chugging hardcore with flashy metal solos and totally rips.

DIOCLETIAN – “REPEL THE ATTACK”

New Zealand’s Diocletian are releasing the new album Amongst The Flames Of A Burning God on August 16 via Profound Lore, and lead single “Repel The Attack” is a brutual, dissonant, grindy death metal attack.

STREET SECTS – “GOODBYE RECIDIVIST ROAD”

Austin industrial-punk duo Street Sects are releasing the two-song EP Gentrification III: Death and Displacement on August 2 via The Flenser, and lead single “Goodbye Recidivist Road” is out now. As heard on last year’s The Kicking Mule, Street Sects have been developing a more melodic sound lately (without losing the abrasion of their early material) and this new song is another example of their ability to make music that’s both crushingly aggressive and accessible.

NASTIE BAND – “SHAPESHIFT”

Nastie Band, the project led by visual artist Frank Haines (under the name Sandy Smiles) and also featuring Faith No More/Imperial Teen member Roddy Bottum and songs with vocals by the 81-year-old Chris Kachulis (who’s known for working with Bruce Haack and sang on his 1970 album The Electric Lucifer), are releasing their self-titled debut album on July 26. First, they’re putting out the single “Shapeshift” this Friday, along with 10 remixes (including one from members of Dalek). You can hear the brooding song now, and see Nastie Band live at NYC’s Brooklyn Bazaar on Thursday (6/13) with Christeene.

NOMAD STONES – “BEHIND THE TRIGGER”

Not only did Cave In just release a new album last week, Cave In’s Adam McGrath and John Robert Conners are now gearing up to release a new album with their band Nomad Stones (which also features bassist Charlie Coffou), Unriddled, on July 12 via Brutal Panda. Lead single “Behind the Trigger” isn’t much like Cave In at all; instead, it’s a dose of driving, power pop-tinged punk. It’s a ripper.
