13 New Metal Songs Out This Week

This week we finally got a taste of one of our most anticipated new metal releases of the year from Inter Arma, and I can’t stop listening to the new Endorphins Lost album, which is reviewed in Notable Releases. For a bigger list of metal albums that came out this week, check out this week’s ‘Upcoming Metal Releases’ on our sister site Invisible Oranges, including Vanum, Endon, and more. Keep scrolling down for all the new metal tracks (and other heavy stuff) we posted here on BV this week..

INTER ARMA – “CITADEL”

Inter Arma have announced their anticipated fourth album, Sulphur English, and we wrote more about the crushing, nearly-seven-minute lead single “Citadel” here.

SPOTLIGHTS – “THE AGE OF DECAY”

Brooklyn’s Spotlights are releasing new album Love & Decay on April 26 via Ipecac, and today they debuted the lead single, “The Age of Decay.” As you’d expect from this band (who are now officially a trio with touring drummer Chris Enriquez becoming a full-time member), “The Age of Decay” finds the balance between pretty, melodic shoegaze and heavy sludge metal, and Spotlights pull it off like pros.

MORE PAIN – “HAMMERING TENDERNESS”

More Pain is a new collaboration from Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox, Dead Cross) and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), who are also both in Head Wound City together, and their debut single “Hammering Tenderness” is a 27-second blast of grindy hardcore. We wrote more about it here.

HEROD – SOMBRE DESSEIN (ALBUM STREAM)

Swiss prog-sludgesters Herod are releasing their second album and first with vocalist Mike Pilat (who used to be in The Ocean), Sombre Dessein, this Friday (2/15) on Pelagic. It includes recent single “Fork Tongue” (which features guest guitar work from Carcass’ Bill Steer), along with a handful of other crushing tracks, and you can stream it in full now.

KINGS DESTROY – “BARBAROSSA”

NYC’s Kings Destroy are going in a few different, more ambitious directions than usual on their upcoming album Fantasma Nera, and we wrote more about the new grunge/metal hybrid “Barbarossa” here.

ENDORPHINS LOST – SECLUSIONS (ALBUM STREAM)

Seattle’s Endorphins Lost make fast, heavy music somewhere in the realm of hardcore, grind, powerviolence, and death metal, and we premiered a stream and wrote more about their new album Seclusions here.

TRONOS (mem NAPALM DEATH) – “BIRTH WOMB”

Tronos is a new band from Napalm Death’s Shane Embury, Napalm Death producer Russ Russell, and drummer Dirk Verbeuren (ex-Soilwork, currently in Megadeth). “Birth Womb” is the lead single off their upcoming debut LP, which we wrote more about here.

DISPARAGER – “FALL”

Brooklyn’s Disparager are releasing their new album Existential Dread on May 3. The album was produced by Defeater’s Jay Maas, and lead single “Fall” is a promising mix of post-hardcore, atmospheric sludge, and more, with a nice balance between pop appeal and pure aggression.

SIGNO ROJO – END OF TETHER (EP STREAM)

Swedish sludge crew Signo Rojo’s new EP came out today, but we premiered it early and wrote more about it here.

THEORIES – “HUMAN VESSEL CELL”

Seattle deathgrinders Theories (whose lineup includes current and former members of Black Breath, Samothrace, and more) are releasing a new album, Vessel, on April 12 via Corpse Flower, and they’re now streaming the absolutely brutal attack of “Human Vessel Cell.”

BASTARD NOISE – “MANDATORY HUMAN EXIT”

“Mandatory Human Exit” is one of Bastard Noise’s three contributions to an upcoming split with fellow noise artist Xiphoid Dementia, and we wrote more about it here.

YEAR OF THE KNIFE – “FATAL”

Having just signed to Pure Noise Records, Delaware hardcore crew Year of the Knife dropped the crushing new single “Fatal.” It’ll appear on the band’s upcoming compilation, Ultimate Aggression, which includes their 2017 EP Ultimate Disease and their 2018 EP First State, Aggression, plus this new song (due April 5 via Pure Noise). No word yet on a proper new album, but this new song is making us excited for one.

DENZEL CURRY – “BULLS ON PARADE” (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE COVER)

Florida rapper Denzel Curry has shown off some rock influence and performed at rock festivals in the past, but he goes full rock for this cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls On Parade,” which he recorded with a live band for triple j’s Like A Version series. As it turns out, Denzel is pretty fucking great at this kinda thing, and — like Zack De La Rocha — he’s got no trouble blending a rap delivery with a hardcore punk bark. He also works in the “Donald Trump” part of his own “Sirens,” which of course works perfectly with a RATM song. If rap rock and nu metal insist on coming back, more involvement from Denzel Curry please.
