13 New Rap Songs Out This Week

It’s a crazy week for new music all across the board, and hip hop is no exception. This week gave us the psychedelic new Danny Brown album and the Robert Glasper mixtape (with a lot of cool guest rappers), both of which I wrote about for Notable Releases, and we also got new albums from Billy Woods, L’Orange & Jeremiah Jae, and Summer Walker, all three of which are embedded below. We also got new singles from Gucci Mane/Megan Thee Stallion, Nocturnal Sunshine/Gangsta Boo/Young M.A, Doja Cat, clipping., Travis Scott, and more.

GUCCI MANE – “BIG BOOTY” (ft. MEGAN THEE STALLION)

Just one week after Gucci Mane appeared on DaBaby’s new album, he’s got a new song out featuring rap’s other rookie of the year, Megan Thee Stallion. It’s a subwoofer-rattling banger, aka the perfect song for Megan to hop on.

NOCTURNUAL SUNSHINE (MAYA JANE COLES) – “PULL UP” (ft. GANGSTA BOO & YOUNG M.A)

UK producer/DJ Maya Jane Coles has released a new track under her Nocturnal Sunshine moniker, and it features two great US rappers, Three 6 Mafia’s Gansta Boo and rising New York emcee Young M.A. Maya provides a minimal, eerie instrumental, and the two rappers sound great over it.

DOJA CAT – “BOTTOM BITCH”

Doja Cat is gearing up to release a new album in November called Hot Pink and today she debuted its new single “Bottom Bitch,” which samples blink-182’s “What’s My Age Again” and comes with a video featuring a cameo from Doja Cat’s “Tia Tamera” collaborator Rico Nasty. Check it out below.

CLIPPING. – “BLOOD OF THE FANG”

Avant-rap trio clipping. shared another single off their upcoming There Existed an Addiction to Blood (due 10/18 via Sub Pop), which samples Sam Waymon’s score to the 1973 vampire film Ganja & Hess, and, according to a press release, “Daveed Diggs’s lyrics conjure an alternate history of black political struggle in the 1960s and 70s, name-dropping radical activists and reimagining them as a pantheon of undead superheroes fighting against systems of oppression.” It also comes with a Lars Jan-directed video that was inspired by a photo of the Black Panther Party’s Huey Newton, where he was handcuffed to a hospital gurney while being treated for a gunshot wound.

TRAVIS SCOTT – “HIGHEST IN THE ROOM”

The ever-popular, radio-dominating Travis Scott is back with a new single and video, “Highest in the Room,” and it’s a dose of atmospheric, melancholic auto-tune rap.

TYLER, THE CREATOR – “EARFQUAKE” (CHANNEL TRES REMIX)

Fresh off releasing his very good Black Moses EP, Channel Tres has remixed “EARFQUAKE” off Tyler, the Creator’s great new album IGOR, marking the first-ever official remix of a Tyler, the Creator song. Channel Tres turns the song into a groovy dancefloor jam, and throws some smooth sax on it too.

SHO MADJOZI – “JOHN CENA”

South African rapper Sho Madjozi has been going viral with her new single “John Cena,” which just got a studio recording for the first time thanks to A Colors Show. After it came out, the actual John Cena danced to it on Ellen.

DAVE EAST – “ALONE” (ft. JACQUEES)

Rising Harlem rapper Dave East will follow a run of several promising mixtapes with his official debut album, Survival, on November 8 via Def Jam/Mass Appeal. Along with the album announcement comes new single “Alone,” which features R&B singer Jacquees and sees Dave East exploring his slow jam side.

DANNY BROWN – “3 TEARZ” (ft. RUN THE JEWELS, prod. JPEGMAFIA)

Danny Brown‘s new album uknowhatimsayin¿ is worth hearing in its entirety (read our review), but its most immediate standout is “3 Tearz,” which features Run The Jewels and was produced by JPEGMAFIA, and which came out as a single earlier this week.

ROBERT GLASPER – “LET ME IN” (ft. MICK JENKINS)

Of the many great songs on Robert Glasper’s new Fuck Yo Feelings mixtape, my favorite might be this one with Mick Jenkins. Considering Mick’s own latest album was largely a jazz-rap album, it’s no surprise that he navigates Robert Glasper’s jazz-hop backdrop like a pro.

BILLY WOODS – TERROR MANAGEMENT (ALBUM STREAM)

Billy Woods already has one of the year’s best rap albums with Hiding Places (a collaboration with LA producer Kenny Segal), and now he just dropped another new 2019 album featuring Fielded, Mach-Hommy, Pink Siifu, and others, with production from Blockhead, Elucid, and others. On first listen, it sounds like Billy has done it once again.

L’ORANGE & JEREMIAH JAE – COMPLICATE YOUR LIFE WITH VIOLENCE (ALBUM STREAM)

Billy Woods also appears on the new L’Orange & Jeremiah Jae album, which follows 2015’s The Night Took Us in Like Family, and continues L’Orange and Jeremiah Jae’s journey through psychedelic rap and their own retro-action-film-like universe.

SUMMER WALKER – OVER IT (ALBUM STREAM)

Atlanta R&B singer Summer Walker continues to rapidly rise, and today she dropped her official debut album, featuring Drake, Usher, 6LACK, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Jhene Aiko, Partynextdoor, and Bryson Tiller. If you like any or all of those guests, you’ll probably wanna give this a spin too.
