So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

JOYCE MANOR – “SILLY GAMES”

The two songs previously released from Joyce Manor’s upcoming album Million Dollars To Kill Me (due this Friday via Epitaph) have been rippers, but “Silly Games” shows off the album’s softer side. It’s got embellishments like a jangly acoustic guitar, bells, and a shaker going on in the background beneath Joyce Manor’s usual fuzz, and it’s very pretty stuff.

MATTHEW DEAR – “HORSES” (ft. TEGAN & SARA)

Matthew Dear revealed another song off his upcoming album Bunny (due 10/12 via Ghostly International), “Horses.” It’s a nice dose of art pop that mixes electronics with lively guitars and sees Matt pairing his own voice with the voices of Tegan & Sara, and there’s a contribution from Protomartyr guitarist Greg Ahee too. “I love being in Matthew’s music brain and leaving little ideas of my own wherever it makes sense. His songs sometimes feel abstract, like puzzles that I can’t stop listening to. It continues to be a great privilege and honor for us to collaborate with him,” said Sara Quin.

MUTUAL BENEFIT – “WAVES, BREAKING”

Jordan Lee will release Thunder Follows the Light, his new album as Mutual Benefit, on Friday (9/21) and is giving an early taste here. “‘Waves, Breaking’ is an experiment of sorts,” says Lee. “While many of our songs deal with inner struggle, I wanted to write something more external, trading soft sounds for guitar feedback and horn blasts to show viscerally the folly of humans believing we are more powerful than the natural world.”

WEAKENED FRIENDS – “PEEL

Portland, Maine trio Weakened Friends are releasing their debut LP, Common Blah, on October 19 via Don Giovanni Records, and they’ve shared a rocking new song off of it, “Peel.” “The lyrics of ‘Peel’ are pretty self explanatory,” songwriter Sonia Sturino says, “especially to anyone who’s ever suffered from panic attacks or anxiety attacks. The feeling like you’re drowning or just stuck in this awful place inside your own head that you can’t break out of regardless of how hard you try. The feeling of ruining a good moment and having it totally be out of your own control.”
