14 New Metal Songs Out This Week
It’s been an exceptionally huge week for metal. Two of my favorite metal albums in recent memory, Cult of Luna and Discordance Axis offshoot No One Knows What The Dead Think, are out today (and I reviewed both for Notable Releases), and this week also gave us new albums from Monolord, White Ward, Coffins, Exhorder (first in 27 years), and more. You can read about all of those in Invisible Oranges’ Upcoming Metal Releases. Plus, the new Blut Aus Nord album was surprise-released this week (stream below). This week also gave us new singles from Lord Mantis, Abigail Williams, Take Offense, Novembers Doom, Witch Mountain, Dropdead, and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…
LORD MANTIS – “DAMOCLES FALLS”
Lord Mantis announced their first album in five years, and you can read more about the album and lead single “Damocles Falls” here.

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS – “I WILL DEPART”
Abigail Williams, whose metalcore and symphonic black metal roots are very much in the rearview, have announced a followup to 2015’s The Accuser, Walk Beyond The Dark, due November 15 via Blood Music. The first single is the eight-plus minute “I Will Depart,” which is a little less evil and a little more melodic than The Accuser, but still pretty menacing and a very promising taste of this new LP.

TAKE OFFENSE – “KEEP AN EYE OUT”
Chula Vista hardcore band Take Offense are gearing up for a tour with Municipal Waste, Napalm Death, and Sick Of It All, and if you like those bands but haven’t checked out Take Offense yet, now would be a good time to familiarize yourself. They just announced their third album, Keep An Eye Out, due October 18 via Pure Noise (their first for the label), and the first single is the very fun title track which hearkens back to ’80s/early ’90s hardcore but sounds very modern too.

NOVEMBERS DOOM – “NEPHILIM GROVE” & “PETRICHOR”
Novembers Doom (still led by founding vocalist and only constant member Paul Kuhr) have been at it for over 25 years and they show no signs of slowing down. They’ll release their 11th album, Nephilim Grove — which was mixed and mastered by past collaborator Dan Swanö (of Edge of Sanity and lots of other projects) — on November 1st via Prophecy. So far they’ve released two songs, the title track and “Petrichor,” both of which fall more into proggy gothic doom than the death-doom they were best known for early on.
—
WITCH MOUNTAIN – “PRICELESS PAIN”
Long-running stoner metallers Witch Mountain are back with new single “Priceless Pain,” which follows their 2018 self-titled album, which was their first with new vocalist Kayla Dixon. Like on that album, “Priceless Pain” proves Kayla fits right in with the band, and “Pricess Pain”‘s mix of soaring howls, guttural screams, and lumbering doom riffage make this song yet another winner.
—
DROPDEAD – “HATRED BURNING”
Providence hardcore/powerviolence vets Dropdead have a new album on the way and recently released demos from it to raise some money after their van was stolen, and now they’ve unleashed another new track on Atomic Action! Records’ new New England hardcore comp Every Winter Is Cold. It’s called “Hatred Burning,” and it’s a 58-second scorcher.
—
CHILD BITE / BRAIN TENTACLES SPLIT
Two equally weird but very different heavy bands, Child Bite and Brain Tentacles, have a new split single. Read more about it here.
—
FIREBREATHER – “OUR SOULS, THEY BURN”
Sweden’s Firebreather have shared another track off their upcoming album Under A Blood Moon (due 9/27 via RidingEasy), and this one mixes slower, doomier stuff with the kind of roaring sludge that the previous two singles had. It gets a little trippy at times too.
—
MINDFIELD – S/T EP
Jacksonville, FL thrash/metalcore band Mindfield’s new self-titled EP comes out this week, and you can stream the whole thing now and read more about it here.
—
ZONAL – “WRECKED”
Zonal — the new project of Justin Broadrick (Godflesh) and Kevin Martin (The Bug), who previously collaborated as Techno Animal — are gearing up to release their new album Wrecked, which includes 12 songs, half of which feature Moor Mother. Here’s one of the ones that doesn’t feature Moor Mother: the creepy, crackly title track.
—
HAVE A NICE LIFE – “LORDS OF TRESSERHORN”
Have A Nice Life recently announced their anticipated third album Sea of Worry and shared the driving title track, and now they’ve unleashed a second single which shows off a sleepier, hazier side of them.
—
BLUT AUS NORD – HALLUCINOGEN
Psychedelic black metal masters Blut Aus Nord have surprise-released their new album to combat a leak.
