15 New Metal Songs Out This Week

Has anyone caught the Municipal Waste, Napalm Death, Sick Of It All tour? If you did, I hope you got there early for Take Offense, whose great new album is out today (I wrote about it for Notable Releases). Also out this week: new albums from 1349, Coffin Rot, Necronomicon, Holy Serpent, Sarcasm, and more, and you can read about those over at Invisible Oranges’ Upcoming Metal Releases. And of course, the album you’ve all been waiting for: Rob Halford’s Christmas album.

Also out this week are new singles from Mayhem, Sodom, Lord Mantis, Abigail Williams, Child Bite, Obsequiae, Street Sects, Have A Nice Life, Integrity, and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…

MAYHEM – “FALSIFIED AND HATED”

Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem, whose members (Necrobutcher included) were just in NYC this week for a listening party and signing (check out a couple of photos here), and who were just announced for the 2020 Philly edition of Decibel Metal & Beer Fest, have debuted another single off their upcoming album Daemon. It’s called “Falsified and Hated,” and it’s another helping of whiplash-inducing fury, but with a murky, slowed-down section that sounds like it was recorded somewhere in the swamps of the underworld.

SODOM – “DOWN ON YOUR KNEES”

German thrash legends Sodom are back with a new band lineup and a new EP. Longtime leader Tom Angelripper has welcomed ’80s-era guitarist Frank Blackfire (who played on Persecution Mania and Agent Orange) back into the band, and they now also have Stefan “Husky” Hüskens (Asphyx, Desaster) on drums and Yorck Segatz (Beyondition) on guitar. The new lineup will release Out of the Frontline Trench on November 22nd via eOne in North America and SPV/Steamhammer in Europe, and it features three new songs as well as a new re-recording of Agent Orange‘s title track and a 2018 live version of “Bombenhagel” from Persecution Mania. The first new song released is “Down On Your Knees,” a real ripper that isn’t just good for a veteran band but good in general.

LORD MANTIS – “QLIPHOTIC ALPHA”

Lord Mantis have shared another great song off their anticipated first album in five years, and you can read more about it here.

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS – “EVER SO BOLD”

Abigail Williams have shared another blackened ripper from their anticipated new album Walk Beyond The Dark, and this one features guest guitar by Justin McKinney, who was bandmates with Abigail Williams leader Ken Sorceron when they were both briefly in The Faceless.

CHILD BITE – “VEXXED LIFE”

Child Bite have already been having a busy year (and vocalist Shawn Knight’s band Shock Narcotic have too), and now they’ve announced a new album, Blow Off The Omens, coming November 22 via Housecore Records. It was recorded by the legendary Steve Albini, and the first single is the shit-kicking “Vexxed Life.”

OBSEQUIAE – “IN THE GARDEN OF HYACINTHS”

Minneapolis’ Obsequiae have shared a second single (and third track) from their anticipated new album The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings (due November 22 via 20 Buck Spin), and even more so than the previous single, this one shows off a breathtaking blend of evil black metal and gorgeous, melodic riffage.

STREET SECTS – “FOURTEEN FRAMES” (ft. DAUGHTERS’ NICK SADLER & LINGUA IGNOTA)

Street Sects, Nick Sadler of Daughters and Lingua Ignota teamed up for this new song for The Needle Drop’s new vinyl compilation, which comes out on November 8 and benefits the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). You can read more about it here.

HAVE A NICE LIFE – “SCIENCE BEAT”

“Science Beat” is the third single off Have A Nice Life’s upcoming third album Sea of Worry, and it sees the usually-dark band embracing an ever so slightly prettier sounding, new wavey kind of vibe.

DENNER’S INFERNO (ex-MERCYFUL FATE) – “SOMETIMES”

Mercyful Fate are reuniting next year, but not with original guitarist Michael Denner, though Denner is staying busy with his own newer project, Denner’s Inferno (whose drummer Bjarne T. Holm and co-writer Hank Shermann are both playing in the reunited Mercyful Fate). Their debut album, In Amber, comes out November 15 via Mighty Music, and you can get a taste from new single “Sometimes,” which finds Denner’s shredding in fine form.

INTEGRITY – “THAW (COLD WORLD)” (SEPTIC DEATH COVER)

Integrity and Bleach Everything are releasing a split 12″ of covers on Halloween. Bleach Everything are doing five Rocket From The Crypt songs with help from members of Power Trip, This Will Destroy You, and The All-American Rejects, and Integrity are doing five songs by Septic Death, whose frontman Brian “Pushead” Shroede went on to design the artwork for Integrity’s 1996 album Brian “Pushead” Shroede. Integrity actually recorded these with help from members of Septic Death, and they’ve just shared their cover of “Thaw (Cold World)” from 1986’s Now That I Have the Attention What Do I Do With It?. Listen to that one at No Echo and hear two previously released songs from the split below.

Integrity leader Dwid Hellion says, “Septic Death were one of the most invigorating and inspiring bands that I came across as a young punk-rock enthusiast in the early 1980s. Their artwork, the lyrics, the music all captured my young imagination and set me onto a path of horror inspired, extreme music. These recordings are my way of sharing the passion that Septic Death brought to me with all of you. I hope that you will feel the dark recesses of Septic Death begin to haunt your imagination as they did mine.”

HEAVENS BLADE – S/T EP

Heavens Blade is the new-ish supergroup featuring Youth Code vocalist Sara Taylor, Piggy D (Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper), Fred Sablan (Marilyn Manson, Chelsea Wolfe, Peter Hook), and Suicide Silence drummer Alex Lopez; read more about their debut EP here.

TAKE OFFENSE – “INTERNALIZED”

Chula Vista hardcore crew Take Offense have been busy touring with Municipal Waste, Napalm Death, and Sick Of It All, and their anticipated new album Keep An Eye Out came out on Pure Noise this today (read our review). Yesterday, they gave one of its best songs, “Internalized,” a black-and-white performance video. Take Offense have a good grasp on a lot of metal and punk subgenres, and this song is no different. It kinda sounds like if Dag Nasty had shredding ’80s metal leads — it’s cool stuff.

CRIMINAL INSTINCT – “THE VIRUS”

Criminal Instinct have shared another track off their upcoming album Terrible Things (due 11/8 via Closed Casket Activities), and instrumentally it’s classic-sounding hardcore/D-beat but vocalist Josiah Hoeflinger adds an extra dose of evil.

MONO – “HALO” (LIVE FROM ELECTRICAL AUDIO)

Post-rock greats MONO are releasing Before The Past • Live From Electrical Audio, a 2019 live-in-studio recording of three of the band’s earliest songs, that recorded and mixed by Steve Albini. The first taste is “Halo.”

BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE – “SOLLEN ES DOCH ALLE WISSEN”

Long-running German dark ambient/jazz group (and Mike Patton collaborators) Bohren & der Club of Gore are releasing a new album, Patchouli Blue, on January 10 via Ipecac. The new single is “Sollen es doch Alle wissen,” and as is often the case with this band, it manages to be both eerie and serene.
