16 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

SEAN PAUL & J BALVIN – “CONTRA LA PARED”

J Balvin, who released the highly acclaimed Vibras last year and who’s playing Coachella this year, has teamed with Sean Paul (again) for the new single “Contra La Pared.” A video is coming out at 10 AM tomorrow but you can stream the track today.

LUCERO – “HELLO MY NAME IS IZZY” & “84 300ZX (WITH T-TOPS)”

Lucero returned with two new country-tinged songs, “Hello My Name Is Izzy,” which frontman Ben Nichols wrote for his daughter, and “84 300zx (With T-Tops).”

NILÜFER YANYA – MISS UNIVERSE (ALBUM STREAM)

London’s Nilüfer Yanya pulls inspiration from so many sources on her new album Miss Universe, yet she makes it all sound her own. An an impressive, entertaining album and you can stream the whole thing at NPR.

LA DISPUTE – PANORAMA (ALBUM STREAM/VIDEOGAME)

La Dispute’s new album Panorama is out next week but you can listen to it now via a specially made videogame just for the band. “Developed by Joost Eggermont and Jorrit De Vries with creative direction from band member Adam Vass, the game transports users to a geometric world with intense landscapes and scenery. Then greeted by 3 polygonal figures, the listener guides the figures through a unique landscape reflecting each track.” Download the game here and watch a trailer for it:

THESE NEW PURITANS – “THE TREES ARE ON FIRE”

UK duo These New Puritans’ new album Inside the Rose is out next week and here’s another taste — the moody, magisterial and measured “The Trees Are on Fire.” Talk Talk has long been an influence on TNP and that’s no different here.

ORVILLE PECK – PONY (ALBUM STREAM)

Masked Canadian country mysterio (less mysterious now) Orville Peck releases his debut album, Pony, next week on Sub Pop but you can wander his dusty, lonesome world now, via FADER:

FOODMAN – “MOYASHI KIDS”

Japanese producer Foodman, who purees electronic styles and other genres like a Cuisinart, will release the ODOODO EP on March 29 via Mad Decent. First single “Moyashi Kids” is a fantastical trip, as is its music video:

THE CARETAKER – EVERYWHERE AT THE END OF TIME & EVERYWHERE, AN EMPTY BLISS (LP STREAMS)

As The Caretaker, Leyland Kirby has been exploring ideas of memory and memory loss with albums. Today he released the final installment in the mammoth, six-part Everywhere at the End of Time series and you can listen to the whole thing here. He’s also gathered unused tracks from those records as well as An empty bliss beyond this World, and released them as Everywhere, at the End of Time, which is a free download.

MATMOS – “SILICONE GEL IMPLANT”

Here’s another track from Matmos’ new album, Plastic Anniversary, which the duo made from samples of plastic things and instruments. While some songs on the album are decidedly danceable, “Silicone Gel Implants” is more elastic and bizarre. The LP’s out tomorrow.

DEFLECT – MASS DELUSION (ALBUM STREAM)

Florida hardcore band Deflect have been making a name for themselves with some EPs and demos over the past few years, and today they dropped their full-length Mass Delusion on Eighty-Sixed Records.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL – LP3 (ALBUM STREAM)

The reunited American Football are releasing their third album LP3 next week (3/22) via Polyvinyl, and this album features a few firsts for the veteran band, including high-profile guest vocalists (including Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell). Listen to the LP and read more about it here.

SCHOOLBOY Q – “NUMB NUMB JUICE”

Schoolboy Q’s new single “Numb Numb Juice” is short, aggressive, to the point, and clocks in at under two minutes.

BARONESS – “BORDERLINE”

Baroness’ new single “Borderlines” starts out sounding like the kind of melodic heavy rock they’ve been doing on their last two albums, but it takes a few unexpected turns, and ends up in very psychedelic territory. New LP Gold & Grey is out in June.

GRIMES – “PRETTY DARK”

Grimes is busy working on a new album but while we wait she has shared a demo of a new song titled “Pretty Dark” that she says she both wrote and made the video for just yesterday.

VIAGRA BOYS – “JUST LIKE YOU” (VIDEO)

Not a new song, but a new video for the strutting standout cut on Swedish band Viagra Boys’ album Street Worms. Directed by Simon Jung, this striking clip features shirtless, tattooed frontman Sebastian Murphy, who sings live here as he travels from the bar, to the grocery store, to the shrimp factory to the forest. You know, a normal day in the life of Viagra Boys.
