18 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

CHARLI XCX – “WARM” (ft. HAIM)
Charli XCX has been teasing her anticipated third LP Charli with a series of buzzed-about singles, and the latest of which, “Warm,” features guest vocals from HAIM. It’s a fun, vibrant track, with Haim’s more organic vocals serving as a nice contrast to Charli’s auto-tune fest.

HTRK – ‘VENUS IN LEO’ (LP STREAM)

The duo of Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang are back with their fourth album as HTRK and first in five years. Venus in Leo delivers more sultry, downtempo minimal synth creations that are nostalgic and warm with an unsettling undercurrent just below the surface

ANAMANAGUCHI – LOREM IPSUM (ARCTIC ANTHEM)

Long-running chiptune band (and viral video makers) have signed with Polyvinyl and will release new album, [USA], on October 25. Here’s the first single.

POST MALONE – “CIRCLES”

Post Malone is releasing his new album Hollywood’s Bleeding on September 6 via Republic, and new single “Circles” sees the massively popular singer/rapper going in kind of a psych-pop direction.

MILES DAVIS – “GIVE IT UP”

The legendary Miles Davis released dozens of albums over his multi-decade career, and even then, there’s still material he recorded that never saw the light of day. One of these lost recordings is Rubberband, an LP created around the time of 1986’s Tutu, but was shelved indefinitely during his shift to new label Warner Bros. Next week, the album will be officially released for the first time, preceded by this single “Give It Up,” which doesn’t sound too out of place with Miles’ funkier material in the ’80s.

G HERBO – “SUMMER IS CANCELLED”

Chicago rapper G Herbo teams with producer Harry Fraud for an impactful new song, “Summer Is Cancelled,” which sounds like an update on the kind of booming, chest-puffed rap that dominated the radio in the early 2000s and sees Herbo addressing the the violence that fills his home city.

MARCO BENEVENTO – “SEND IT ON A ROCKET”

Marco Benevento has shared another single off his upcoming Leon Michels-produced album Let It Slide (due 9/20), and like the title track, it’s the kind of psych-pop that should appeal to fans of anything from The Beatles to The Flaming Lips to Tame Impala.

FOUR TET – ANNA PAINTING EP

Electronic producer Four Tet has shared a new three-song EP Anna Painting, which is a collaboration with painter and longtime friend Anna Liber Lewis. As he explains on Bandcamp, the record was created by the pair over the course of several months, with Four Tet and Lewis creating art based on each other’s work.

GARY & STEVIE’S ROCK N’ ROLL SHOW – FAKE NEWS TRENDING (ALBUM STREAM)

It’s an outsider art, DIY dream team with Gary Wilson and R. Stevie Moore finally collaborating on record after decades in each other’s orbit.

Y LA BAMBA – “ENTRE LOS DOS”

Y La Bamba, the group led by Luz Elena Mendoza, will release their new album, Entre Los Dos, on September. Here’s the gorgeous, sunny and featherlight title track. You can also catch them at Bumbershoot this weekend.

ANGEL WITCH – “DON’T TURN YOUR BACK”

NWOBHM legends Angel Witch will return with their first album in seven years this November, and we wrote more about lead single “Don’t Turn Your Back” here.

MUNICIPAL WASTE – “WAVE OF DEATH”

Municipal Waste announced a new EP called The Last Rager and shared lead single “Wave of Death” with a video featuring tons of cool live footage. You can read more about it here.

SUBHUMANS – “99%”

“99%” is the killer new single off UK anarcho-punk legends Subhumans’ first album in 12 years, and you can read more about it here.

MAYHEM – “WORTHLESS ABOMINATIONS DESTROYED”

“Worthless Abominations Destroyed” is the first single off Norwegian black metal vets Mayhem’s upcoming album Daemon, which you can read more about here.

NEIL YOUNG WITH CRAZY HORSE – “MILKY WAY”

Neil Young with Crazy Horse will release Colorado, their first album since 2012’s Psychedelic Pill, on October 25. It was recorded mostly live in the studio, and here’s the first single.

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE’S AVEY TARE & GEOLOGIST – “BALLAD OF REVEREND WAR CHARACTER”

“A few weeks ago we planned on seeing Purple Mountains together. Instead we spent the night listening to David’s records and talking about how much his music and art meant to us. He was an inspiration for decades. One we wouldn’t be here without. We’ve been playing covers of [David Berman’s] music since 1994 when we first picked up guitars together, so it felt like one of the few things we could do to get through the sadness. The next day we worked on this cover of ‘Ballad of Reverend War Character.’” – Avey Tare & Geologist.

SPRAY PAINT – “CLEANING YOUR GUN”

Acerbic punks Spray Paint are back with a new album, Into the Country, which will be out October 25 via 12XU. The first single is “Cleaning Your Gun,” which is one of their most immediate songs ever.

THE CRITICALS – “GOOD LOOKIN”

If you miss the ’00s alt-rock revival, Nashville duo The Criticals wear their love of The Strokes, Hives and Libertines on their sleeves, as you can hear on their new single “Good Lookin’.”
