ENVY – “A FAINT NEW WORLD”

Japanese screamo greats Envy have shared another track from their anticipated first album in five years, The Fallen Crimson, and you can read more about it here.

HUMAN IMPACT (UNSANE, SWANS) – “E605″

Human Impact, the new band of Unsane frontman Chris Spencer with members of Swans and Cop Shoot Cop, have debuted a second single off their self-titled debut album, and you can read more about it here.

YATRA – “BLOOD WILL FLOW”

Maryland trio Yatra have dropped a new track from new album Blood of the Night (out 1/31 via STB Records), which finds them taking the trad-doom-meets-harsh-screams approach of their debut into sludgier, more muscular territory. Read more here.

HIGHER POWER – “LOST IN STATIC”

UK band Higher Power’s highly anticipated sophomore album will finally arrive next week (1/24) via Roadrunner, and they’ve now shared a third single from it and it’s one of the catchiest songs they’ve released yet. “Lost In Static” sees them taking the hardcore energy of their earlier work and applying it to big, hooky, shoegaze-indebted alt-rock that fans of anything from Smashing Pumpkins to Deftones to Title Fight are not gonna wanna sleep on. TOMBS – “THE DARK RIFT”

Tombs’ Monarchy of Shadows (due 2/28 via Season of Mist) is one of the metal albums we’re anticipating this year, and they’ve just shared another ridiculously good song from it, “The Dark Rift.” Like the lead single/title track, this one finds them pulling off a seamless blend of pulverizing black metal and Swans-like goth.

AZUSA – “MEMORIES OF AN OLD EMOTION”

Azusa — the band of vocalist Eleni Zafiriadou (Sea + Air), bassist Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan), guitarist Christer Espevoll (Extol), and drummer David Husvik (Extol) — will release their new album Loop Of Yesterdays on April 10 via Solid State Records, and its first single is the schizophrenic “Memories of an Old Emotion,” which manages to jump back and forth between mathcore and dream pop without going off the rails.

GODTHRYMM – “THE SEA AS MY GRAVE”

Godthrymm (who feature current and former members of My Dying Bride, Anathema, Vallenfyre, and more) have premiered a second track off their anticipated debut album Reflections (due 2/14 via Profound Lore). This one’s more melancholic and less growly than the first single, but a no less appealing dose of gothy doom in its own way.

MYRKUR – “ELLA”

Black metal/folk/pop musician Myrkur is exploring her folk/pop side on new album Folkesange, as you can hear on lead single “Ella,” which you can read more about here.

PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS PIGS – “REDUCER”

Newcastle upon Tyne stoner rockers Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, who have US shows coming up including SXSW, have now announced a new album, Viscerals, and shared its lead single, “Reducer.” It’s a throwback-sounding heavy psych banger, and it comes with a trippy, Orange amp-filled video that matches the song’s early ’70s vibes.

WVRM – “MY FUCKING DIXIE (THE NEW SOUTH)”

South Carolina deathgrinders WVRM will release their new album Colony Collapse on April 3 via their new label home Prosthetic Records, and the first taste of the album is the skull-crushing “My Fucking Dixie (The New South).” They also began a tour with Ether Coven and Barishi last night.

AMITIÉ – “A LOVE LETTER” / KARLOFF – “THE DEAD WILL WALK THE EARTH”

Two very solid screamo bands, Providence’s Amitié and Ontario’s Karloff (ex-Life In Vacuum), have teamed up for this quick and dirty split 5″ on Zegema Beach Records. Both songs are just over a minute long, with Amitié holding down the heavier emoviolence side and Karloff offering up something a little more atmospheric.

BENIGHTED – “BRUTUS”

French deathgrind vets Benighted are releasing Obscene Repressed on April 10 via Season of Mist, and the first single is “Brutus,” which the band says is “about the pure hate from the album’s main character Michael, and his story against his father and the disgusting things he does to his mother.”

AFTERBIRTH – “SPIRITUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE”

Long Island’s Afterbirth were initially only around briefly in the early ’90s, during which time they released a couple demos that helped pioneer the subgenre of brutal death metal, and then they reunited in 2013, released their first-ever full-length album in 2017 with new vocalist Will Smith (of Artificial Brain, Buckshot Facelift), and are now releasing their sophomore album, Four Dimensional Flesh, on March 13 via Unique Leader. They had Colin Marston (of Krallice, Dysrhythmia, Behold… The Arctopus, and the Gorguts reunion lineup) engineer it, and the first taste is “Spiritually Transmitted Disease.”

HOLY FAWN – THE BLACK MOON EP

Last year, Holy Fawn signed to Triple Crown after stirring up buzz for their Whelmed Records-released 2018 debut album Death Spells, and now they’re gearing up for a tour with Thrice, mewithoutYou, and Drug Church and just put out their first new release since teaming with Triple Crown, the three-song The Black Moon EP. It was produced by the great Matt Bayles (Minus the Bear, Isis, Mastodon, Foxing), and it’s a gorgeous, vocal-oriented, heavy post-rock EP that defies easy categorization.

GREAT AMERICAN GHOST – “ALTAR OF SNAKES”

Rising Boston hardcore/metalcore band Great American Ghost debuted “Altar of Snakes” from their upcoming new album Power Through Terror today, and like the first single, it’s stupid fun mosh-fuel with just hint of a poppier side.

ALEXISONFIRE – “SEASON OF THE FLOOD”

Reunited post-hardcore vets Alexisonfire are about to begin a tour with The Distillers, and ahead of that they’ve shared their third reunion single, “Season of the Flood,” a seven-minute song that finds AOF exploring atmospheric, Hum-like territory.

END IT – ONE WAY TRACK EP

Baltimore hardcore crew End It’s new EP came out today via Flatspot Records, and we premiered a stream of it earlier this week, and you can read what we wrote here.

GREY DAZE (CHESTER BENNINNGTON) – “WHAT’S IN THE EYE”

Before forming Linkin Park, the late Chester Bennington fronted ’90s-era alt-metal band Grey Daze, who regrouped in 2017 to re-record a selection of their songs, but Chester’s untimely passing halted the project. Now, the surviving Grey Daze members have put the finishing touches on those re-recordings — with the blessing of Chester’s widow, mother, and son — and the as-of-yet untitled album will be released at some point in the near future via Loma Vista. The first taste is “What’s In The Eye,” which puts ’90s-era recordings of Chester’s voice up against a new arrangement that Grey Daze worked on with producers Chris Traynor (Bush, Helmet, Orange 9MM), Kyle Hoffman, and Jay Baumgardner. It’s pretty fascinating stuff.
