19 New Songs Out Today

Yeasayer
Yeasayer

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

NONAME – “SONG 32″

On New Year’s Day, Noname followed her great 2018 album Room 25 with the song “Song 31,” and now she has followed that with “Song 32.” Over a floating atmosphere and a head-nodding drum beat, Noname delivers razor-sharp bars that suggest she’s only getting better.

PIVOT GANG – “BAD BOYS” (ft. SMINO)

Saba’s Pivot Gang recently released their first song in six years, “Jason Statham, Pt. 2,” followed by “Studio Ground Rules,” and now they have released a third new single and announced their proper debut studio album, You Can’t Sit with Us (due April 19). The new song features Smino, who fits in perfectly to Pivot Gang’s world. The album also features Kari Faux, Mick Jenkins, Sylvan LaCue, Jean Deaux, Femdot, and Benjamin Earl Turner.

YEASAYER – “I’LL KISS YOU TONIGHT”

Yeasayer are gearing up to release new music, and their first new single of the year is “I’ll Kiss You Tonight,” which is a little poppier than they sounded last time around.

EVAN GREER – SHE/HER/THEY/THEM (ALBUM STREAM)

Folk punk musician and activist Evan Greer released her first album in 10 years today via Don Giovanni, the guest-filled She/Her/They/Them (guests include a member of Anti-Flag and Bonfire Madigan) As Evan told Billboard:

The songs on this album cover a really wide range of topics, from personal struggles with mental health and insecurity to really concrete political fights like mass incarceration, or the ways the mainstream gay rights movement has often failed to fight for the most marginalized members of the LGBTQ community. But if there’s one theme that ties it all together, it’s an album about resisting binaries, fighting unchecked authority and oppressive power structures, and refusing to give up, even in these trying times.

It ends with a fun, short song for kids, entitled “Children’s Song.” Stream the entire thing now:

KACEY MUSGRAVES – “NEON MOON” (WITH BROOKS & DUNN)

Country duo Brooks & Dunn released Reboot, a collection of their hits recorded with contemporary country artists. Kacey’s take on “Neon Moon” isn’t quite a cover, since it features Brooks & Dunn on backing vocals. “She came in with such a different progressive twist and the song still stood up,” Dunn told Billboard about the song’s newest version.

MIGUEL – TE LO DIJE (EP STREAM)

Miguel has returned with a new EP featuring Spanish-language versions of five songs from his War & Leisure album. The new project features Kali Uchis, Flor de Toloache, and C.Tangana. “Crazy, I think I like these songs better in Spanish,” Miguel says.

PUP – “SEE YOU AT YOUR FUNERAL”

PUP’s third album Morbid Stuff is out today (read our review and Q&A with the band), and it’s their best album yet and one of the year’s best punk albums. We recommend hearing the whole thing, but one of its catchiest songs which wasn’t released as a single is “See You At Your Funeral.”

THE PROPER ORNAMENTS – “IN THE GARDEN”

Ultimate Painting are no more but James Hoare’s other band, The Proper Ornaments, make a very similar brand of ’60s inspired psych. If you miss that VU-style jamming, dig this closing cut from The Proper Ornaments’ just-released third album, 6 Lenins.
