19 New Songs Out Today

TNGHT

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

TNGHT – “DOLLAZ”

Hudson Mohawke and Lunice recently re-activated TNGHT and released their first new song in six years, “Serpent,” and now they have announced their first EP in seven years, TNGHT II, due November 12 via Warp/Lucky Me. IT features “Serpent” as well as the just-released “Dollaz.” Like “Serpent,” it sounds like TNGHT but it’s not just a rehash of their first EP.

COURTNEY BARNETT – “KEEP ON” (LOOSE TOOTH COVER)

Milk! Records is releasing a compilation where artists on the label cover other artists on the label, and it includes this new Courtney Barnett cover of Loose Tooth’s 2018 song “Keep On.” (Courtney herself is being covered by Evelyn Ida Morris for the comp.) The original is upbeat, twee-ish indie pop, but Courtney turns it into a shaggy rocker and makes it sound like a Courtney Barnett song. It’s very cool stuff.

DAVIDO – “RISKY” (ft. POPCAAN)

Nigerian Afro-pop singer Davido’s new album A Good Time comes out November 22 via Davido Worldwide Entertainment/Sony UK/RCA, and it includes new single “Risky.” This one features Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan, whose style sounds great next to Davido’s.

ITASCA – “ONLY A TRAVELER”

Itasca has shared another single off her upcoming album Spring (due 11/1 via Paradise of Bachelors), and as you’d probably expect from Itasca, it’s exactly the kind of gorgeous psychedelic folk that Itasca is always so great at.

EMPATH – “DRUNKEN ANGEL / THE OTHER SIDE”

Rising noise rockers Empath shared a new cover of Lucinda Williams’ “Drunken Angel.” “We were interested in reworking a song outside of our typical style of music,” the band’s Catherine Elicson told The FADER. “We also wanted to pay homage to Lucinda Williams, one of the greatest living songwriters. So we dragged ‘Drunken Angel’ through the Empath filter, and the result is what made it to the other side. Lucinda, we hope you don’t hate it!” Paired with the cover is a new b-side, “The Other Side.”

ARMANI WHITE – “TOUCHE”

Philly rapper Armani White has announced a new album, Keep In Touch, which pays tribute to his father, who passed away in 2016 after a battle with prostate cancer. The first single is “Touché,” and Armani tells HipHopDX, “I wanted to fully embody the street persona of my father when I wrote [‘Touché’] … to personify the idea that pain can be mended with money and material things.” It’s a brief but powerful song — check it out and stay tuned for the album to drop on November 8.

NICK WATERHOUSE – “I’M DUE (FOR A HEARTACHE)”

“This was a real late-night type of tune that followed me all over the coast,” says Nick Waterhouse of his laid-back new single. “Born somewhere on a landline between Baton Rouge and San Francisco and finally cut in the warmth of a dim, late session. Cutting it, the band played it just how it always felt in my head, right down to Mark Pender’s one-take trumpet solo. I could never find the right place to put it on my latest album, so here it is — from me to you. Keep it like a secret.”

JUANA MOLINA – “PARAGUAYA PUNK”

Argentine experimental artist Juana Molina is releasing a new EP called Forfun this Friday (10/25) via Crammed Discs, and for these four songs, she pulled influence from a genre she doesn’t normally play: punk. Opening track “Paraguaya Punk” kinda sounds like the transitional point between late ’70s punk and early ’90s post-punk, and it’s pretty cool stuff.

VANTAGE POINT – AN ANSWER YOU WON’T FIND EP

Boston straightedge new-ish-comers Vantage Point put out a four-song promo on Triple B with two originals and covers of American Nightmare and Desperate Measures back in June, and today they followed it with this new four-song EP. They’re clearly only going better, and the crisper production of this EP suits them well.

ANAMANAGUCHI – “ON MY OWN” FEAT. HANA

Chiptune mainstays Anamanaguchi are releasing a new album, [USA], on Friday via Polyvinyl, and off of it comes new single “On My Own,” with bubblegum sweet vocals from Grimes collaborator HANA.

TOPS – “SEVEN MINUTES” & “ECHO OF DAWN”

Montreal band TOPS are back with a new two-song 7″ single, their first release for their own Musique TOPS label. “Seven Minutes” is a jangly, groovy song in the “Way to Be Loved” mode, while “Echo of Dawn” is a delicate ballad.
