19 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

LUCINDA WILLIAMS – “LOST GIRL”

While Lucinda Williams has a new album, Better Angels, on the way, this powerful ballad is the title track for new Netflix movie, Lost Girls, which is based on Robert Kolker’s book of the same name. “We were very lucky with the amazing band that we were able to put together on very short notice,” sasy Williams. “Within two or three days we had Benmont Tench and Steve Ferrone from the Heartbreakers and Val McCallum, who plays in Jackson Browne’s band, as well as Blake Mills, who used to play in my band several years ago. It was truly an amazing band. I think it was all just meant to be.” Lost Girls is on Netflix now.

MOANING – “CONNECT THE DOTS”

L.A. dreampop band Moaning release their new album, Uneasy Laughter, on Friday via Sub Pop and here’s one last early taste before the whole thing drops. “Connect the Dots” has a bit M83 in it, with widescreen synths that soar, while lyrically it deals with trust and friendship. “The song is about realizing you need help and being brave enough to ask for it,” says the band’s Sean Solomon. It’s a misconception that asking for help is a sign of weakness. In reality it’s one of the hardest things you can do.”

YBN NAHMIR – “2 SEATER” (ft. G-EAZY & OFFSET)

YBN Nahmir continues to rise, and he today he returns with a very fun new single featuring star power from G-Eazy and Offset.

GODEN – “TWILIGHT”

Goden is the new project of Stephen Flam of seminal death/doom band Winter and Serpentine Path, and this new band very literally picks up where Winter left off – they’re named after a Winter song, Flam started the project with leftover Winter riffs, and their upcoming album Beyond Darkness (due may 6 via Svart) references the title of Winter’s classic 1990 album Into Darkness. Listen to the crushing new single “Twilight” and read more about it at Invisible Oranges.

ROTTING OUT – “STONES”

“Stones” is “a big fuck you to everyone who tried to adopt this ‘cool swag ghetto child’ vibe when they themselves are from suburbia,” Walter Delgado tells The Hard Noise, and it’s another kickass offering from their upcoming first album in seven years, Ronin.

JUANA MOLINA – “CARA DE ESPEJO (HOME SESSION)”

Having released a punk-inspired EP last year, Juana Molina has shared this trancey, intoxicating “home session” version of “Cara De Espejo” which was originally on 2017’s Halo. She’s also postponing her spring North American tour till later this summer.

DVSN – “BETWEEN US” (ft. SNOH AALEGRA)

Drake affiliates dvsn will release their new album A Muse In Her Feelings on April 17 via OVO, and it includes this Snoh Aalegra-featuring dose of moody R&B.

FYZICAL – 2020 DEMO

I can’t find out much info about FYZICAL at the moment, but they just dropped this four-song demo on the trusty Triple B Records, who point out they’re a new band from NYC and Omaha, and these songs are all raw, classic-style hardcore scorchers with a burly-voiced frontperson making things extra grimy.

KATATONIA – “BEHIND THE BLOOD”

Prog metal vets Katatonia have unleashed the second single off their upcoming 11th album City Burials. Speaking about “Behind The Blood,” vocalist Jonas Renkse says it’s “a celebration of the heavy metal music that we all grew up with, modified to fit the Katatonia universe. Whilst lyrically it is telling the tale of dark revelry, to awaken the blood with the sound and taste of thunder.” You can definitely hear a little of that classic heavy metal influence on this one, but it’s still distinctly a Katatonia song.

MAC MILLER – “RIGHT” & “FLOATING”

The late Mac Miller’s posthumous album Circles came out earlier this year, and now two more bonus tracks from the album have been given a digital release.

DEVIN TOWNSEND – “WE LIKE TO PARTY IN ISOLATION” (VENGABOYS COVER) & ZTV ROUGH TESTS

For the second edition of his “Quarantine Project,” prog vet Devin Townsend shared a cover of Vengaboys’ “We Like to Party (The Vengabus)” (“OK, so here’s an unmixed version of this song (I’ll mix it once I’ve got some video content) and I just threw together a dumb visual as a placeholder too,” he wrote. “The idea is: If you’re bored or self Isolated right now, have some fun and make some video footage and send it to me on twitter, then I’ll mix this and redo a compilation video.”) and the original footage of Ziltoid TV segments from the Z2: Dark Matters album.

HAYLEY WILLIAMS – “ROSES/LOTUS/VIOLET/IRIS” (ft. BOYGENIUS)

The Hayley Williams and boygenius song is here, and it’s glorious. Read more about it here.

ALKALINE TRIO – E.P.

DIRTY PROJECTORS – “ISOLATION” (JOHN LENNON COVER)

Dirty Projectors have shared a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation,” with Dave Longstreth delivering a passionate if spare rendition of the song from 1970’s John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album. David notes that proceeds from Bandcamp sales through April 3 go to MusiCares’ COVID-19 relief fund, “for musicians and music industry folks whose work has been disrupted by the crisis.”

THE AVALANCHES – “RUNNING RED LIGHTS” FT. RIVERS CUOMO & PINK SIIFU

The Avalanches have shared new single “Running Red Lights,” which features Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo on lead vocal as well as Pink Siifu who raps a few lines from David Berman’s Purple Mountains song “Darkness and Cold.”
