2016 Emmy nominations: Beyonce's 'Lemonade,' 'Mr. Robot,' Aziz Ansari, 'Fargo,' 'Portlandia' & more
The 2016 Emmy Awards nominations were just announced and once again HBO’s Game of Thrones ruled, nabbing 23 noms, followed closely by FX’s The People V. O.J. Simpson which got 22. Fargo‘s excellent second season got 18 Emmy bids, and Mr. Robot, which just aired its season 2 premiere last night (no spoilers!) got six noms, including Best Drama and a deserved Best Actor for Rami Malek.
Meanwhile, Aziz Ansari‘s series Master of None got nominated for four Emmys, including Best Comedy Series, and three specifically for Aziz (Actor, Directing, Writing), and Portlandia was nominated for three Emmys.
Beyonce‘s visual album Lemonade, which premiered on HBO, was nominated for four Emmys: Outstanding Variety Special, Outstanding Production Design For A Variety, Nonfiction, Event Or Award Special, Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special, and Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming. Beyonce and co-director Kahlil Joseph were also nominated for Outstanding director.
Adele Live In New York City was nominated five times and the Nina Simone documentary on Netflix, What Happened, Miss Simone?, was nominated six times.
