2017 Golden Globe winners: 'Atlanta,' 'La La Land,' 'Moonlight' & more

golden-globes

The 2017 Golden Globes are tonight (1/8), hosted by Jimmy Fallon with Questlove DJing an eclectic mix (Jill Scott, Hamilton mixtape, ESG!). Jimmy’s opening number featured both Justin Timberlake and the kid cast of Stranger Things rapping. Watch that below.

So far the most surprising win is Donald Glover’s terrific hard-to-pidgeonhole Atlanta which won Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy which beat favorites Veep and Mozart in the jungle. Donald Glover won for Best Actor in a Television Musical or Comedy as well

La La Land trumped both music categories with Justin Hurwitz’s score beating Hanz Zimmer, Pharrell, Johann Johannssen and others; and song “City of Stars” beating ones by Iggy Pop, Justin Timberlake and others. Riz Ahmed, so good in The Night Of (and so good as one half of Swet Shop Boys), lost to Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager for Best Actor in a Television Drama. La La Land is, as predicting, cleaning up with Best Picture Musical or Comedy, and wins also going to director Damien Chazelle for Best Director and Best Screenplay, and best actor wins for both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

On the drama side, Moonlight won Best Picture, Casey Affleck won Best Actor for Manchester By the Sea, and Isabelle Huppert won Best Actress for Elle.
