2018 Emmys Winners list ('Mrs Maisel,' 'Barry,' 'Game of Thrones,' more)

The 70th Primetime Emmy awards are tonight in Hollywood, with hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che (of SNL‘s ‘Weekend Update’). The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which really swept things this year, won Best Comedy; while Game of Thrones won Best Drama.

SNL’s Kate McKinnon and Keenan Thompson opened the show with musical number “We Solved It” that addressed nominee diversity that also featured Tituss Burgess, Kristin Bell, Sterling K Brown, Ricky Martin, Andy Samberg, Rupaul, EGOT winner John Legend, and the “One of Each Dancers”:

Jost and Che’s monologue was politely edgy. Che said he was happy to be amongst the Many creative people who haven’t been caught yet” and, on the awards allowing the audience of nominees to drink in their seats this year, Jost said, “Just what we need — people losing their inhibitions at a work functions.” There were jabs at Roseanne, Netflix, more on diversity.

Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen, who star in new Amazon series Forever, were brought on as Emmy Experts who maybe didn’t do too much research.

Michael Che starred in a taped segment called “The Reparation Emmys” where he gave posthumous awards to unrecognized performances: The JeffersonsMarla Gibbs, Good Times’ Jimmy Walker, A Different World’s Kadeem Hardison, Martin’s Tichina Arnold, John Witherspoon, and Jaleel White.

Teddy Perkins, star of Atlanta’s weirdest Season 2 episode, was in attendance but who was underneath the makeup?

First awards of the night: Best Supporting Actor/Actress in a Comedy which went to the very deserving Henry Winkler for Barry and Alex Borstein for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was a real sweep. In addtion to Best Comedy and Borstein’s award, Amy Sherman-Palladino won for Best Writing and Directing for a Comedy Series for The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. and Rachel Brosnahan won for Best Actress.

Bill Hader won Best Actor in a Comedic Role for Barry.

John Mulaney won for Writing for a Variety Special for “Kid Gorgeous.”

In the Drama categories: Matthew Rhys won for The Americans; Claire Foy won for The Crown; Peter Dinklage won his third Best Supporting Actor Emmy playing Tyrion Lannister in Game Thrones; Thandie Newton won Best Supporting Actress for Westworld saying “”I don’t even believe in God, but I’m going to thank her tonight.” Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg won the award for Writing for The Americans; and director Stephen Daldry won for Game of Thrones.

Black Mirror won the award for Writing for a TV Movie Limited Series for the “U.S.S. Callister” episode (writers Charlie Brooker and William Bridges).

The most memorable moment of the night, so far though, was Glenn Weiss who proposed to his girlfriend while accepting his award for Best Directing of a Variety Special (she said yes).

They also honored the amazing, 96-and-still-going-strong Betty White:

Many of the more behind-the-scenes type awards were given out before the telecast, including the first-ever Best Music Supervision award which went to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (beating Atlanta, Stranger Things, This Is Us and Westworld). SNL song “Come Back Barack,” from the episode Chance the Rapper hosted, won Best Original Music and Lyrics, and Rick & Morty already won for Best Animated Program (specifically “Pickle Rick”) Check out the full list of winners and nominees below which we’ll update as wel go.
