2018 Golden Globe nominations: ‘Lady Bird,’ ‘Big Little Lies,’ ‘Stranger Things’ & more

The nominations for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 2018 Golden Globe Awards have just been announced and leading the pack in film is Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy The Shape of Water with seven nominations, and in television HBO’s Big Little Lies received six nominations.

On the film side, Greta Gerwig’s great Lady Bird is up for four nominations, including Best Comedy/Musical, best screenplay, and acting nods for Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf. Also up for Best Musical or Comedy are James Franco’s movie about The Room, The Disaster Artist, Jordan Peele’s Get Out (for which the Golden Globes have received some backlash for nominating as a comedy, and Peele responded), Tanya Harding biopic I, Tonya, and The Greatest Showman. In addition to The Shape of Water, the other Best Drama nominees include Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Jonny Greenwood was nominated for his score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Phantom Thread, as was Hans Zimmer for Dunkirk. Mary J Blige got a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Mudbound. Her song “Mighty River” from that film is vying for Best Song alongside Nick Jonas‘ “Home” (Ferdinand), Miguel‘s “Remember Me” (Coco), Mariah Carey‘s “The Star” (The Star), and “This is Me” (The Greatest Showman).

On the television side, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale and This Is Us were nominated for Best Drama, while Master of None, SMILF, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Black-ish, and Will & Grace were nominated for Best Musical or Comedy. Aziz Ansari got nominated again for Master Of None.

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will be handed out January 7 and will be broadcast on NBC with Seth Meyers as host. Check out all the 2018 nominations below.
