TODAY IS THE DAY – “BURN IN HELL”

Genre-defying heavy music legends Today Is The Day have unleashed the third taste of their anticipated new album No Good To Anyone in the form of “Burn In Hell,” which starts out as swaggering hard rock but then takes an unexpectedly vicious turn.

HUMAN IMPACT – “CONSEQUENCES”

Human Impact, the new band of Unsane frontman Chris Spencer with members of Swans and Cop Shoot Cop, have shared the third single off their anticipated self-titled debut album (due 3/13 via Ipecac). “Consequences” is perhaps the most attitude-filled, hard-hitting rager shared from this LP yet, and it’s great stuff. Human Impact also revealed that they’ll do a West Coast tour with YOB after their NYC release show.

ULVER – “RUSSIAN DOLL”

Black metal turned trip hop turned synthpop legends Ulver are promising to release a new album this year, and the first taste is “Russian Doll,” which finds them very much in the Depeche Mode-ish gothy synthpop realm.

HATEBREED – “WHEN THE BLADE DROPS”

Metalcore OGs Hatebreed have dropped a new single, and it may not be anything new, but for a band this far into their career, it kinda rips.

MACHINE HEAD – “CIRCLE THE DRAIN”

Machine Head, who have been celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album Burn My Eyes on tour, have now unleashed a new song, and it’s a real shapeshifter that goes from ballad territory to headbang city and back.

WAKE – “MOUTH OF ABOLITION” (ft. KHEMMIS’ BEN HUTCHERSON)

Genre-defying metal band Wake have shared the song featuring Khemmis’ Ben Hutcherson from their anticipated new album Devouring Ruin, and this one finds them going in a massively heavy black/death direction. Listen and read an interview with the band over at Kerrang.

DISEMBOWEL – “IMMOLATION”

Having formed in 2016 and released three demos, Portland OSDMers Disembowel will now release their debut full-length Echoes of Terror on March 6 via Maggot Stomp and the first single is the burly, dense “Immolation.”

MOON DESTROYS (ex-TORCHE) – “BLUE GIANT” (ft. MASTODON’S TROY SANDERS)

Moon Destroys is the new band of Juan Montoya (MonstrO/Killer Be Killed, ex-Torche) and Evan Diprima (Brother Hawk, ex-Royal Thunder, and they’re releasing their debut EP Maiden Voyage on march 27 via Brutal Panda. The EP feaures two guest vocalists, Paul Masvidal (Cynic, Death, etc) and Mastodon’s Troy Sanders, the latter of whom also played in Killer Be Killed with Juan Montoya. Troy sings on the just-released single “Blue Giant.”

HELFRÓ – “AFEITRUN”

Icelandic black metallers Helfró will release their self-titled debut album on April 24 via Season of Mist Underground Activists, and you can hear its whirlwind of a lead single now.

WREKMEISTER HARMONIES – “MIDNIGHT TO SIX”

Wrekmeister Harmonies have unveiled another broody track off the upcoming We Love To Look At The Carnage, which was made with an expanded four-piece lineup featuring Thor Harris (Swans, Shearwater, etc) on percussion and Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart on electronics, and which drops next week.

RIGHTEOUS FOOL (featuring the late Reed Mullin) – “LOW BLOW”

Following Corrosion of Conformity drummer Reed Mullin’s death, a previously unreleased song has surfaced from his band Righteous Fool, who he formed with CoC bassist Mike Dean and guitarist Jason Browning while CoC were on a break, and who recorded an aborted album in the early 2010s.

MYRKUR – “LEAVES OF YGGDRASIL”

Myrkur has shared another song off her upcoming, traditional Nordic folk-inspired Folkesange, and “Leaves of Yggdrasil” is indeed in the trad-folk realm, with a little ethereal dream pop in the mix too.

HILARY WOODS – “ORANGE TREE”

Hilary Woods has shared another track off her upcoming sophomore LP Birthmarks, and
like the previous single, “Orange Tree” is a dark, brooding, entrancing piece of music.

GAYTHEIST – “THE DARK DEEP”

Portland metalpunks Gaytheist (whose name comes from singer Jason Rivera, a gay atheist) have shared a rager off their upcoming album How Long Have I Been On Fire?, and you can read more about it here.

DIRT WOMAN – “CREATOR”

Fans of the fuzzed-out, body-swaying stoner doom of Electric Wizard and Windhand may want to keep their ears peeled for the debut album by Ocean City, Maryland’s Dirt Woman. Read more about new single “Creator” here.

ORPHAN DONOR – “PLANKS”

Orphan Donor is another project of Secret Cutter drummer Jared Stimpfl, and compared to Secret Cutter’s sludge/grind sound, Orphan Donor pulls more from ’90s/early ’00s screamo and metalcore and does a lot of justice to that sound. Read more about new song “Planks” here.

DRAIN – “SICK ONE”

Santa Cruz’s Drain will release California Cursed on April 10 via Revelation Records (their first for the label), and the first taste is “Sick One,” which packs mile-a-minute hardcore and lumbering sludge metal into just a 58-second run time.

CROW KILLER – “BRING BACK THE BLOOD”

Salt Lake City’s Crow Killer (ex-Close Grip) dropped a new single on New Age Records and it’s a thick, in-your-face, metallic hardcore crusher.

CHOICE TO MAKE – VICIOUS EXISTENCE (EP STREAM)

Choice To Make are a promising new-ish hardcore band from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre who share members with One Step Closer, Worn, and Strength for a Reason, and their new Vicious Existence EP is out now on Flatspot Records. Read more here.

CORIKY (IAN MACKAYE) – “CLEAN KILL”

Coriky, the new band of Ian MacKaye, his Fugazi bandmate Joe Lally, and his Evens bandmate Amy Farina, will release their self-titled debut album on March 27 via Dischord, and the very cool lead single “Clean Kill” is out now. Read more about it here.

MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION – FEVER DREAM EP

Richmond’s Mutually Assured Destruction dropped this new EP today and it’s like crossover thrash meets Life of Agony meets Danzig. And it rips.
