The 12-minute title track is out, and it starts out very jazzy before turning into a black metal attack and eventually bringing in some truly epic guitar soloing. It’s good stuff.

HERE LIES MAN – “LONG LEGS (LOOK AWAY)”

L.A. band Here Lies Man will release No Ground To Walk Upon in August which continues to find them mixing metal, psych and African music. “We’re very conscious of how the rhythms service the riffs,” says vocalist/guitarist and Antibalas member Marcos Garcia. “Tony Iommi’s (Black Sabbath) innovation was to make the riff the organizing principle of a song. We are taking that same approach but employing a different organizing principle: For Iommi it was the blues, for us it comes directly from Africa.” You can feel that heavy groove on this new single.

HEAVEN’S CLUB (mem DEAFHEAVEN) – “MNEMONIC”

Deafheaven guitarist Shiv Mehra has a new synthpop/dreampop group, Heavens Club, that also includes Deafheaven drummer Dan Tracy, plus Nadia Kury, Chris Natividad, Ross Peacock and Luis Mayorga. “Heaven’s Club is the fog of memory and insubstantial fantasy,” Mehra says of the project. “The songs reside in the liminal space between love and the end of suffering. They reach toward an ambiguous desire for peace — a deeply felt longing.” Heaven’s Club’s debut Here There and Nowhere, is out September 27 via Profound Lore and first single “Mnemonic” has a bit of a Miami Vice vibe.
