Denzel Curry RICKY
Denzel Curry – “RICKY” video still

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

DENZEL CURRY – “RICKY”

Denzel Curry has released his first single since last year’s great TA13OO. “RICKY” is named after Denzel’s father, and while Denzel can be known to favor darker, weirder sounds, this one’s an accessible banger that should get any hip hop fan nodding their head.

Psychedelic indie hard rockers Black Mountain have shared another song off their anticipated new album Destroyer, and this one sees them delivering ’70s-style, denim and leather-wearing biker rock, but in that unique Black Mountain way.

NE-HI – NE-HI EP

Chicago indie rock band NE-HI, who channeled New Zealand indie and ’90s college rock on their 2017 debut album, have decided to call it quits, but are saying goodbye with this new three-song EP. Silver lining: singer-guitarist Jason Balla’s new band Dehd drop their debut album this week.

DÂM-FUNK – “COMPOS MENTIS”

DāM-FunK invites you to luxuriate in this neon bubble bath of a track, as glistening synths ride the surface of the water, and fat bass massages sore muscles. “compos mentis” is off his new EP, STFU II, that’s out next week.

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL – “FAMILY AFFAIR” (MARY J BLIGE COVER)

Eagles of Death Metal will release a covers album, titled Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote, on June 7 featuring their takes on tracks by Guns N’ Roses, The Steve Miller Band, Love & Rockets, David Bowie, The Ramones, George Michael and more. Here’s their very faithful version of Mary J Blige’s #1 hit from 2001.

MARY J BLIGE & NAS – “THRIVING”

Speaking of Mary J Blige, she dropped a new song with Nas to help promote their upcoming co-headlining tour. Mary J’s pipes are in fine form, and the early-2000s-sounding production of this song is a lot more in Nas’ comfort zone than the Kanye beats on his last album were.

Alex Lahey releases her sophomore album The Best of Luck Club on May 17 via Dead Oceans, and she’s shared a new single from it, “Unspoken History,” which nearly strays into ballad territory mixing horns and keys, and is more subdued than most of what we’ve heard from Alex previously.

ASEETHE – “THROES”

Aseethe have revealed the title track off their anticipated new album Throes (due 5/17 via Thrill Jockey), and it’s nine and a half minutes of lumbering sludge/doom done right. You can also read a new interview with Aseethe over at Invisible Oranges.

WILD SIDE – WHO THE HELL IS WILD SIDE? (ALBUM STREAM)

Wild Side hail from Canada, but they’ve clearly got a lot of love for classic NYHC, so much so that their debut album Who The Hell Is WILD SIDE? could pass as a lost album from that era. It’s out now on Triple B Records and you can stream the whole thing here.

CRUMB – “GHOSTRIDE”

Brooklyn-based indie rock quartet Crumb are self-releasing their debut album, Jinx, on June 14. Their newest single “Ghostride” is a laid-back, loungey slice of sunshine.
