22 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

DENZEL CURRY – “RICKY”

Denzel Curry has released his first single since last year’s great TA13OO. “RICKY” is named after Denzel’s father, and while Denzel can be known to favor darker, weirder sounds, this one’s an accessible banger that should get any hip hop fan nodding their head.

BLACK MOUNTAIN – “LICENSED TO DRIVE”

Psychedelic indie hard rockers Black Mountain have shared another song off their anticipated new album Destroyer, and this one sees them delivering ’70s-style, denim and leather-wearing biker rock, but in that unique Black Mountain way.

MOZZY – “WINNING” (ft. LIL POPPA)

Sacramento rapper Mozzy is releasing his new project Internal Affairs on May 31 via Mozzy Records/EMPIRE, and new single “Winning” has the kind of West Coast bounce that Mozzy does so well.

AFRICA EXPRESS – “JOHANNESBURG” FT GRUFF RHYS, MORENA LERABA, RADIO 123, SIBOT

Africa Express, Damon Albarn’s collective that mixes Western musicians with African players, will release new album EGOLI on July 12. Across 18 tracks it includes appearances by Nick Zinner, Georgia, Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys, and more. Check out chilled-out, groovy first single “Johannesburg,” which features Gruff, along with Morena Leraba, Radio 123, and Sibot.

NE-HI – NE-HI EP

Chicago indie rock band NE-HI, who channeled New Zealand indie and ’90s college rock on their 2017 debut album, have decided to call it quits, but are saying goodbye with this new three-song EP. Silver lining: singer-guitarist Jason Balla’s new band Dehd drop their debut album this week.

DÂM-FUNK – “COMPOS MENTIS”

DāM-FunK invites you to luxuriate in this neon bubble bath of a track, as glistening synths ride the surface of the water, and fat bass massages sore muscles. “compos mentis” is off his new EP, STFU II, that’s out next week.

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL – “FAMILY AFFAIR” (MARY J BLIGE COVER)

Eagles of Death Metal will release a covers album, titled Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote, on June 7 featuring their takes on tracks by Guns N’ Roses, The Steve Miller Band, Love & Rockets, David Bowie, The Ramones, George Michael and more. Here’s their very faithful version of Mary J Blige’s #1 hit from 2001.

MARY J BLIGE & NAS – “THRIVING”

Speaking of Mary J Blige, she dropped a new song with Nas to help promote their upcoming co-headlining tour. Mary J’s pipes are in fine form, and the early-2000s-sounding production of this song is a lot more in Nas’ comfort zone than the Kanye beats on his last album were.

ALEX LAHEY – “UNSPOKEN HISTORY”

Alex Lahey releases her sophomore album The Best of Luck Club on May 17 via Dead Oceans, and she’s shared a new single from it, “Unspoken History,” which nearly strays into ballad territory mixing horns and keys, and is more subdued than most of what we’ve heard from Alex previously.

CONSUMMATION – “OPHIDIAN CROWN”

Australian death/black metallers Consummation are releasing their new album The Great Solar Hunter on June 7 via Profound Lore, and they’re now streaming the absolutely gruesome opening track, “Ophidian Crown.”

XENIA RUBINOS – “SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO” (THE CLASH COVER)

Xenia Rubinos’ en Español take on The Clash’s classic, which was personally approved by lead guitarist Mick Jones, was recorded for Lindsey Cordero and Armando Croda’s documentary I’m Leaving Now (Ya Me Voy), and is now getting its own release.

ASEETHE – “THROES”

Aseethe have revealed the title track off their anticipated new album Throes (due 5/17 via Thrill Jockey), and it’s nine and a half minutes of lumbering sludge/doom done right. You can also read a new interview with Aseethe over at Invisible Oranges.

WILD SIDE – WHO THE HELL IS WILD SIDE? (ALBUM STREAM)

Wild Side hail from Canada, but they’ve clearly got a lot of love for classic NYHC, so much so that their debut album Who The Hell Is WILD SIDE? could pass as a lost album from that era. It’s out now on Triple B Records and you can stream the whole thing here.

CRUMB – “GHOSTRIDE”

Brooklyn-based indie rock quartet Crumb are self-releasing their debut album, Jinx, on June 14. Their newest single “Ghostride” is a laid-back, loungey slice of sunshine.

GLASSING – “FOLLOW THROUGH”

Austin’s Glassing are part post-hardcore, part atmospheric black metal, and new single “Follow Through” is a great example of their take on both genres. Read more about it at Invisible Oranges.

FLYING LOTUS – “MORE” (FT. ANDERSON .PAAK)

Flying Lotus has shared the Anderson .Paak collab off his guest-filled new album. He also announced a tour today; more info here.

GLITTERER – “DESTINY”

Title Fight have been quiet lately, but co-frontman Ned Russin is staying busy with his solo project Glitterer. His debut album was co-produced by (Sandy) Alex G and Arthur Rizk, and it’ll be out on ANTI- Records in July. Read more about lead single “Destiny” here.

ADA LEA – “THE PARTY”

Ada Lea is Saddle Creek’s newest signing and you can read more about her new single “the party” here.

BLINK-182 – “BLAME IT ON MY YOUTH”

blink-182’s new album is expected some time in the next couple months, and while most info is still TBA, today they released the lead single. It is not very good.

KELLY LEE OWENS – “LET IT GO”

It’s been two years since KLO dropped her terrific debut album and we’re finally getting some music via this new single that is, like much of her work, both gorgeous and deeply danceable. Let’s hope more is on the way.

SILVERSUN PICKUPS – “FREAKAZOID”

L.A. band Silversun Pickups release their new Butch Vig album in about a month, and here’s another song from it, an anthemic wide-screener that leaves any traces of their once shoegazy sound in the past.

HARRY AND THE POTTERS – “THE TRACE”

Wizard rock icons Harry and The Potters are back with their first album in 13 years, and they’ve shared its first single, “The Trace,” which we wrote more about here.
