23 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

DAPHNI (CARIBOU) – SIZZLING (EP STREAM)

Dan Snaith is back with a new EP of full-on, four-on-the-floor disco via his Daphni pseudonym. You may have heard SIZZLING‘s title track — a remix/edit of “Sizzlin’ Hot” by Paradise – but the other three tracks are bangers too.

CAROLINE POLACHEK (EX-CHAIRLIFT) – “DOOR”

Having released an ambient album as CEP and an record as Ramona Lisa,, former Chairlift singer Caroline Polachek is plotting a proper solo career. “I feel totally out of control of most things in the world, but can at least build landscapes for the mind,” she told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe today, announcing her effervescent new single “Door.” She co-wrote it with Dan Nigro, PC Music maestro Danny L Harle, and Jim-E Stack and directed its video:

TRINA – “BAPS” (ft. NICKI MINAJ)

Veteran rapper Trina is releasing her new album The One this Friday, and it includes this new Nicki Minaj collab. It’s a banger, and Trina and Nicki go hard on this one.

DAUGHTER OF SWORDS – “FIELDS OF GOLD”

Daughter of Swords (aka Alexandra Sauser-Monnig of Mountain Man) is releasing her debut album Dawnbreaker (which was co-produced by Nick Sanborn, who’s one half of Sylvan Esso with Mountain Man’s Amelia Meath) on June 28 via Nonesuch, and its latest single is the gentle, atmospheric “Fields of Gold.”

JESCA HOOP – “OUTSIDE” (ft. KATE STABLES & JUSTIS)

Jesca Hoop’s new album Stonechild comes out July 5 via Memphis Industries, and the latest single is “Outside,” which features This Is The Kit’s Kate Stables (who’s also all over The National’s new album) and Justis. It’s a very pretty dose of folk-pop with some crystalline harmonies from Jesca and her guests.

GUCCI MANE – “PROUD OF YOU” (PROD. KENNY BEATS)

Gucci Mane’s new project Delusions of Grandeur drops this Friday (6/21), and its new single is “Proud Of You,” which was produced by Kenny Beats, who’s on a roll right now (thanks to work with Rico Nasty, Vince Staples, and more). Kenny provides Gucci with a typically great backdrop, and Gucci navigates it like a pro.

VIOLENT FEMMES – “ANOTHER CHORUS”

Violent Femmes plea for brevity on the new single from their upcoming Hotel Last Resort. “Please don’t sing another chorus / that’s the thing that really bores us.” Lest you think they don’t take their own advice to heart, “Another Chorus” is is only two-and-a-half minutes long.

SIGNALS MIDWEST – “YOUR NEW OLD APARTMENT” (ft. SINCERE ENGINEER)

Ohio emo band Signals Midwest are releasing the Pin EP on August 2 via Lauren Records, and the first single is “Your New Old Apartment,” which features Chicago’s Sincere Engineer.

BAGGAGE (ex-THE SWELLERS) – “MISOPHONIA”

The Swellers are no more, but Jono Diener is now busy fronting a new band Baggage, and their debut album Life In Misophonia comes out August 2 via the Smartpunk label. It was recorded with Marc Jacob Hudson, who’s also worked with The Swellers, as well as Against Me!, Saves the Day, Taking Back Sunday, and more, and new single “Misophonia” is a crisp dose of indie pop punk.

AMASON – “MARRY ME JUST FOR FUN”

Swedish supergroup Amason (which features members of Dungen, Miike Snow and Little Majorette) will release their second album in August and have just shared a second single from it. “Marry Me Just for Fun” is anthemic and sunny and the video features creations from acclaimed Swedish puppeteer Petter Lennstrand.

B BOYS – “PRESSURE INSIDE”

Brooklyn’s B Boys will release new album Dudu on July 26 via Captured Tracks and here’s another single from it. “Pressure Inside” still shows their love of early Wire but they bring their own energy to the equation.

GAUCHE – “FLASH”

Gauche, the DC group which includes members of Priests and Downtown Boys, have released another track from their debut album — a hooky new wave / post-punk style number “Flash” that looks at shortcuts in life. “The flash of a camera flattens a scene. It makes the colors pop, but it also makes reality 2D,” says the band’s Daniele Yandel. “To see true depth, you have to wait for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. You can’t cheat time. That’s what a flash is: a way of cheating time and vision, and like all attempts to cheat, it cheapens the experience. It distorts the depth and detail of the scene captured. To truly take it in, you have to wade into the darkness and wait. Slowly, the scene lightens of its own accord, and the shadows appear. Shadows reveal truth. Shadows are how you see when you’re really in it.” A People’s History of Gauche is out July 12 via Merge.

BE ALL END ALL – “DIVIDEND”

Florida hardcore crew Be All End All is releasing the Object To Persona LP in July via Triple B Records, and they’ve now shared the absolutely ass-kicking “Dividend.”

MAJOR LAZER – “MAKE IT HOT” (ft. ANITTA)

Major Lazer have been prepping a new album, and while there’s still no concrete word on that, today they released a new single featuring past collaborator Anitta. She says, “It’s amazing when you work in synergy with someone who completes you artistically. Having the opportunity to write/compose another song with Major Lazer was really special. We have developed this energy that is similar to being around family and close friends when we work together. It’s good to be able to bounce ideas off each other and that’s something that happens naturally now. I think it’s difficult for anyone to listen to this song and remain still.”

METRONOMY – “SALTED CARAMEL ICE CREAM”

“I wanted to write a song that would get played at weddings,” says Metronomy’s Joe Mount, who takes the band to Funkytown on this new single from their forthcoming double album, Metronomy Forever.

SPOON – “NO BULLETS SPENT”

It’s a rule that all best-of compilations must include a new song. Will “No Bullets Spent” hold its place on Spoon’s new greatest hits comp? Only time will tell, but it doesn’t tarnish their image.

THE HOLD STEADY – “DENVER HAIRCUT”

The Hold Steady announced their first new album in five years, and shared a new single which you can read more about here.

FALLOW LAND – “THE HOPE”

Ann Arbor, MI’s Fallow Land’s debut album Slow Down, Rockstar was produced by Matt Bayles (Minus the Bear, Foxing, Caspian), and it comes out July 26 via Spartan Records. New single “The Hope” is the kind of post-rock/emo blend that should appeal to fans of Moving Mountains and The Appleseed Cast, and you can read more about it here.

SUN KIL MOON – “LOVIN’ YOU” (MINNIE RIPERTON COVER) (LIVE)

Mark Kozelek’s take on Minnie Riperton’s classic falsetto-laden single doesn’t quite hit her high notes, but he also doesn’t embarrass himself. This is a new double-live Sun Kil Moon album out in August.

!!! (CHK CHK CHK) – “SERBIA DRUMS”

“Serbia Drums” is maybe the poppiest song !!! have released to date, this one featuring co-vocalist Meah Peace. The band’s new album, Wallop, is out in August.
