23 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…
JPEGMAFIA – “BALD!”
JPEGMAFIA follows his great, psychedelic 2019 album All My Heroes Are Cornballs with more of a hard-hitting, bare-bones rap song, but still in his unmistakable and delightfully weird style.

R.A.P FERREIRA – “LEAVING HELL”
R.A.P Ferreira is another moniker of Rory Ferreira (who also goes by scallops hotel and used to go by milo), and his first album under this moniker, Purple Moonlight Pages, will drop March 6 on his own Ruby Yacht label. The trippy, jazzy “Leaving Hell” from that album is out now.
—
MOUNT SHARP – THAT SHADOW (ALBUM STREAM)
A lot has changed in the world since 2015, when Mount Sharp last released an album, but the Brooklyn band picked up right where they left off, making warm and fuzzy indie rock that’s not afraid to let it rip either. Their new album, That Shadow, is out today:
—
RADIOHEAD – “TREEFINGERS” (EXTENDED), “TALK SHOW HOST (NELLEE HOOPER MIX)” & “THE GLOAMING (THE 33.33333 REMIX)”
Radiohead’s digital archive of rarities is proving to be a treasure trove to fans looking to track down rare tracks and remixes, and the band added three new items today.
—
DEAP LIPS – “MOTHERFUCKERS GOT TO GO”
Deap Lips, the collaboration between LA riff rockers Deap Vally and The Flaming Lips, will release their album on March 13. There’s not much, lyrically, to this song beyond the title but in this election year we’d take a guess on who the motherfuckers in question are are.
—
PETER BJORN AND JOHN – “MUSIC”
Swedish indiepop vets Peter Bjorn and John are celebrating their 20th anniversary with new album Endless Dream which will be out March 13 via INGRID. They’ve just shared another song from the record, the breezy, jazzy “Music.” “’Music’ is a reflection of what music meant for us when we started the band,” says Bjorn. “And how it still is the DNA that keeps us together and makes everything else not as important. A great beat, a cool riff, a beautiful melody singing what’s on our minds.”
—
ALANIS MORISSETTE – “SMILING”
Alanis Morissette has a new album, Such Pretty Forks In The Road, due out May 1 via RCA, and “Smiling” is the second single off of it. It was originally written for Broadway adaptation of Jagged Little Pill, where it’s sung by the mother of the show’s central family.
—
WARDRUNA – “GRA”
Nordic dark folk band Wardruna, whose North American tour we’re giving away tickets to, have shared the first taste of their upcoming album Kvitravn and it’s a thrilling, psychedelic mix of traditional sounds and more modern ones.
—
BLOOD COMMAND – “SATURDAY CITY”
The impossible-to-pin-down pop/punk/metal/etc band Blood Command, who begin a Europe tour with Kvelertak (amazing pairing) today, have signed to Hassle Records and dropped a new single. As you’d expect from this band, it sounds gigantic and it never stays in one place for long.
—
BODY COUNT – “BUM-RUSH”
Ice-T’s veteran rap metal band Body Count have shared the second single off their upcoming seventh album Carnivore, and it’s a political bone-crusher that Ice-T calls “another fast moving Body Count track continuing my attempt to wake people up.” It’ll take you right back to 1992, but it sounds pretty badass today too.
—
SPARTA – “EMPTY HOUSES”
Former At the Drive In member Jim Ward’s band Sparta have shared another single off their upcoming first album in 14 years, and this one finds the post-hardcore band exploring an alt-country side.
—
EXHORDER – “THE MAN THAT NEVER WAS”
Last year, New Orleans thrash/groove vets Exhorder released their first album in 27 years, the genuinely badass Mourn the Southern Skies, and today they’ve shared a non-album track from those sessions that’s just as killer as anything on the album.
—
RICK ROSS – “SEASON TICKET HOLDER” (ft. D. WADE, RAPHAEL SAAADIQ, UD)
Rick Ross has teamed with neo-soul vet Raphael Saadiq, Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade, and current Heat power forward Udonis Haslem for this warm and hazy new jam.
—
VANESSA CARLTON – “MINER’S CANARY”
Here’s another taste of Vanessa Carlton’s upcoming Dave Fridmann-produced album. This one’s a piano ballad, but in a more airy, ethereal way than, say, “A Thousand Miles.”
—
LIL TJAY – “FOREVER POP”
We sadly lost Pop Smoke at just 20 years old this week, and today fellow New York rapper (and Pop Smoke friend/collaborator) Lil Tjay has shared this mournful, touching tribute to him.
—
EMPLOYED TO SERVE – “HARSH TRUTH” (RELIVED)
Rising UK metalcore band Employed To Serve have shared a newly reworked version of “Harsh Truth” from their 2019 album Eternal Forward Motion, and this one features a guest spot by Stray From the Path’s Drew Dijorio. In vocalist Justine Jones’ own words, this version “sees the song take a more primitive and visceral shape.”
—
GERRY CINNAMON – “WHERE WE’RE GOING”
Gerry Cinnamon, a new-ish Scottish singer/songwriter that Dropkick Murphys recently covered and will soon take on his first US tour, has shared this jangly new single.
—
ANDREW WEATHERALL – “UNKNOWN PLUNDERER” FT. RIDE’S ANDY BELL
We lost the great Andrew Weatherall this week and this brand new single shows he was still at the top of his game. Opening with satellite pings and embellished with sound effects, “Unknown Plunderer” sounds beamed in from outer space, offering up a mellow, funky groove with lots of headroom. This is Weatherall’s sweet spot — chill but danceable — that’s he’s been working in since Primal Scream’s “Loaded.” Amid the cosmic wooshes there’s the kind of “wub wub” deep bass you can feel in your spine and a very cool guitar riff woven throughout by Ride’s Andy Bell.
—
WILLIE NELSON – “FIRST ROSE OF SPRING”
Willie Nelson is still going strong at 86 years young and will release his 70th (!) album First Rose of Spring on April 24 via Legacy. Read more about the album and just-released title track here.
—
ALLIE X – “SUSIE SAVE YOUR LOVE” (ft. MITSKI)
The new Allie X record includes a song featuring and co-written by Mitski, and you can read more about that here.
—
ONE STEP CLOSER – “LEAD TO GRAY”
The very promising Wilkes-Barre melodic hardcore band One Step Closer will release their debut album this summer on Triple B, but first here’s a killer new single, “Lead to Gray,” which you can read more about here.
