25 New Metal and Hardcore Songs Out This Week

For heavy new albums out this week, I can’t recommend the latest from Japanese screamo legends Envy and rising metalcore band Typecaste enough, both of which I wrote about in Notable Releases. There’s also a new album from another long-running Japanese hardcore band, Saigan Terror (more on that below), plus the new Sepultura (which seems to be the most excited people have been about a new Sepultura album since Derrick Green became the singer), Svart Crown, Voimaton, and more which you can read about in Invisible Oranges’ Upcoming Metal Releases. On top of all that, we got new singles from Napalm Death, Code Orange, The Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God, WVRM, Cult of Fire, …and Oceans, Ihsahn, Earth Rot, Total Fucking Destruction, Rain of Salvation, and more. Scroll down for all the metal and hardcore songs we posted this week…

NAPALM DEATH – “LOGIC RAVAGED BY BRUTE FORCE” & “WHITE KROSS” (SONIC YOUTH COVER)

Napalm Death have shared their first song in four years, along with a Sonic Youth cover, and you can read more about it here.

WVRM – “THORN PALACE”

South Carolina grinders WVRM, who are gearing up for a tour with Napalm Death, have shared another bruiser from their upcoming Prosthetic Records debut, Colony Collapse. It starts out as velocious as you’d hope, but it proves WVRM know how to slow it down too.

CODE ORANGE – “SWALLOWING THE RABBIT WHOLE”

Code Orange have debuted another song off their anticipated new album Underneath, and this one shows off their mechanical industrial side before erupting into a full-blown metalcore attack.

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER – “VERMINOUS”

Melodic death metal vets The Black Dahlia Murder have announced their ninth album Verminous and released its title track, which you can read more about here.

LAMB OF GOD – “CHECKMATE”

Lamb of God announced their first album in five years and the first taste is “Checkmate.” Read more here.

LIVING GATE (mem OATHBREAKER, YOB) – “LIVING GATE”

Living Gate is a new band from Lennart Bossu, Levy Seynaeve, and Wim Sreppoc (all three of whom are in Oathbreaker, the former two of which are in Amenra, and the latter two of which are in Weigedood) and YOB bassist Aaron Rieseberg, and their debut EP Deathlust is coming this May. The eponymous lead single is out now, and it finds these guys going in a more death metal direction than their more well-known projects. They do it well.

CULT OF FIRE – “(NE)CISTY” & “BUDDHA 5”

Czech black metallers Cult of Fire recently announced their new double album Moksha / Nirvana, released the single “(Un)Clean,” and promised another single and more album details would arrive this week. Here they are. “(Un)Clean” Is actually not on the album, but they’ve put two new songs out, “(ne)Čistý” from Moksha and “Buddha 5” from Nirvana. As you probably gathered from the album title, both continue the band’s interest in spirituality and Eastern religion, and both are also ferocious black metal songs. The album drops February 20.

…AND OCEANS – “THE DISSOLUTION OF MIND AND MATTER”

Last year, Finnish death metal vets Festerday released their first-ever full-length album, Iihtallan, on Season of Mist. This year, very related black metal band …and Oceans — who formed out of the ashes of Festerday in the ’90s but broke up in ’05 which led to the formation of related band Havoc Unit who have been broken up since 2013, which was also the year Festerday reformed — are also back and releasing their first new album in 18 years. (Make sense???) It’s called Cosmic World Mother, it drops May 8 via Season of Mist, and the first single is “The Dissolution of Mind and Matter” which finds these guys in very fine form.

IHSAHN – “NORD”

Ihsahn (whose legendary band Emperor are playing a rare US show at Psycho Las Vegas) goes in a slower, more somber (but still blackened) direction on the latest taste of his Telemark EP.

PULCHRA MORTE – “KNIFE OF THE WILL”

Pulchra Morte — the death/doom supergroup with a revolving lineup that currently includes Adam Clemans (Skeletonwitch, Wolvhammer), John Porada (Wolvhammer, Abigail Williams), Jarrett Pritchard (Eulogy, Brutality), Clayton Gore (Eulogy, Harkonin), and Jeffrey Breden (Leagues Below) — are prepping a followup to their 2019 debut album Divina Autem Et Anile, and the first taste is the new single “Knife of the Will,” which is equal parts brutal and melodic and a nice taste of whatever’s next for Pulchra Morte. Listen at Decibel.

EARTH ROT – “MIND KILLER”

Australian blackened death metallers Earth Rot have unleashed another taste of their upcoming Black Tides of Obscurity (due 3/6 via Season of Mist), and it’s gnarly, beastly stuff.

SOLOTHUS – “THE WATCHER”

Finnish death-doomers Solothus are releasing their third album and first for 20 Buck Spin, Realm Of Ash And Blood, on March 27 via their new label home. The first single is the monstrous “The Watcher.”

HUNSTMEN – “RIDE OUT”

Huntsmen’s new song “Ride Out” sounds like a cross between Yes, Mastodon, and ’60s folk rock, but even that doesn’t do this seamlessly genre-defying song justice. Read more about it here.

AZUSA – “MONUMENT”

Azusa — aka vocalist Eleni Zafiriadou (Sea + Air), bassist Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan), guitarist Christer Espevoll (Extol), and drummer David Husvik (Extol) — have shared another song off their upcoming album Loop Of Yesterdays, and it’s another great example of this band’s ability to mix tough hardcore and ethereal pop.

TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION – “…TO BE ALIVE AT THE END OF THE WORLD”

Total Fucking Destruction is a grindcore band, but they’ve also been known to do very non-grindcore things, and the first single/title track off their upcoming album …to be alive at the end of the world (due April 20 via Translation Loss) is very non-grindcore. It’s a trippy, psychedelic song that would sooner appeal to fans of Can than fans of Pig Destroyer. It’s very cool stuff, and you can hear it at Decibel.

BILL WARD BAND – “POWDER ON THE MOON”

Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has released a new solo single, and this one finds him exploring dramatic, suspenseful prog rock.

HORSENECK – “MATT LAUER’S SECRET BUTTON”

Sacramento sludge/post-hardcore band Horseneck (whose lineup includes two former Will Haven guitarists and Chelsea Wolfe’s current drummer) have shared another song off their upcoming sophomore album Fever Dream.

PURE WRATH – “CHILDREN OF THE HOMELAND”

Indonesian black metallers Pure Wrath are releasing their new EP The Forlorn Soldier on March 6 via Debemur Morti Productions, and you can stream the new single, read more about that song, and read a new interview with the band, at Invisible Oranges.

RAIN OF SALVATION – “THE SOUND OF TRIUMPH”

Northeast hardcore band Rain of Salvation (who share members with SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Typecaste, Adrenaline, and more) are prepping a new EP, and the first taste is this absolutely crushing dose of ’90s-style metallic hardcore.

MIKE CRAIN – “WAIT, WHAT?”

Mike Crain of Dead Cross, Retox, and more recently Cunts is sadly battling cancer, but fortunately that’s not stopping him from making new music. He’s got his first-ever solo EP, which is self-titled, coming March 13 via his own Radical Guy Recordings, and you can read more about the lead single here.

GREY DAZE (CHESTER BENNINGTON) – “SICKNESS” (ft. HELMET’S PAGE HAMILTON)

Helmet frontman Page Hamilton lent his guitar playing to a new version of “Sickness” by the late Chester Bennington‘s pre-Linkin Park band Grey Daze, who are releasing an album with reworked material that they wrote and recorded with Chester in the ’90s. You can read more about it here.

CRUEL HAND – “WEEDS” (LIFE OF AGONY COVER)

Maine hardcore band Cruel Hand are working on album #5, and in the meantime they decided to lay down a cover of “Weeds,” the sorta pop-punk-ish single off Life of Agony’s 1997 album Soul Searching Sun. They say: “We went in the studio to demo new music for Static Era Records and instead left with this gem. Misuse of label funds? Maybe. Great song? Definitely. Don’t sleep on later-era Life Of Agony!”.

GIVER – SCULPTURE OF VIOLENCE

German hardcore band Giver dropped this new LP on Holy Roar, and if you like Modern Life Is War/Hope Conspiracy-style melodic hardcore, give this one a spin.

SAIGAN TERROR – ANATOMY OF SAIGAN

Japanese hardcore vets Saigan Terror have a new LP out on the killer American label Triple B Records, and it’s a scorcher.
