So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

LIAM GALLAGHER – “ONE OF US”

“‘One of Us’ is about family, friendship and a sense of belonging,” says Liam Gallagher of the latest single from his upcoming Why Me? Why Not. “I love the groove and the gospel outro. It reminds me of The Sweet Inspirations.”

AMANDA PALMER – “EVERYBODY KNOWS SOMEBODY”

Amanda Palmer released a great new solo album, There Will Be No Intermission, back in March, but her new single is very different from the rich piano and orchestra songs on it; read more about it here.

JOHN COLTRANE – “BLUE WORLD”

There continue to be treasures unearthed in the archives of John Coltrane. An album he recorded in 1964 using his classic quartet lineup with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums — made right after Cresent but before A Love Supreme — will be out this fall. The music was originally used to soundtrack a Canadian art film, Le chat dans le sac, but will now finally be released as Blue World by Impulse! on September 27. This is the title track.

QUAVO, CITY GIRLS & MEGAN THEE STALLION – “LIKE A PASTOR”

The Quality Control compilation is out today, and one of the big highlights is this collab from Quavo of Migos with two of hip hop’s fast-rising stars, City Girls and Megan Thee Stallion. The bar is high for a collab like that, and they delivered.

OFFSET, DABABY & GUNNA – “PINK TOES”

Another notable new track from the Quality Control comp is “Pink Toes,” and it’s worth hearing for rookie of the year DaBaby’s verse alone.

CHARLI XCX – “CROSS YOU OUT” (ft. SKY FERREIRA)

Charli XCX’s guest-filled album Charli is due out in September, and her latest collaborative track features Sky Ferreira, who is also planning on releasing an album this year. “Cross You Out” is another irresistible track from Charli; she says, “someone who I have always admired and have known for a long time through the weird world of music, I feel like Sky has defiance and determination and brilliant vision. I am really happy we made this song together Sky.”

TKAY MAIDZA – “AWAKE” (ft. JPEGMAFIA)

Not only did JPEGMAFIA release a great new single and announce a tour this week, he also appeared on this hard af new single from Australian rapper Tkay Maidza.

HO99O9 – CYBER WARFARE EP (ft. JPEGMAFIA)

Need even more JPEGMAFIA? He’s on “Simon Phoenix” off the new EP from industrial rap group Ho99o9.

SWAE LEE – “WON’T BE LATE” (ft. DRAKE) & “SEXSTASY”

The more pop-minded half of Rae Sremmurd is back with two new singles, one of which features a sing-songy guest spot from Drake. He’s also touring with Post Malone this year.

VALEE – “UNINVITED” (ft. CALBOY)

Valee made one of last year’s best songs with “Womp Womp” and he continues to rise. Today he returns with this new single, and promises no dogs were harmed in the making of the video.

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE – “TO THE GROUND”

Death Cab for Cutie are releasing The Blue EP on September 6, and the band says its latest single, “To the Ground,” “was one of the first songs we worked on during the sessions for Thank You for Today. It remained a band favorite throughout the process; indeed, literally up until the week that we had to send the record off to be mastered, the idea was for it to either begin or end the record! In the end, we decided that it didn’t quite fit in with the rest of the tracks thematically, and we wanted to give it a proper home where it could stretch its legs and take up the grand amount of space it demanded. Happily, the perfect home has been found – kicking off The Blue EP.”

YOUNG THUG – SO MUCH FUN (ALBUM STREAM)

Young Thug is back with a new album; guests include Future, Gunna, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Quavo, Juice WRLD, NAV, J Cole, Travis Scott, and more.

THE DARKNESS – “HEART EXPLODES”

The Darkness have shared a second single from their upcoming album, Easter is Canceled, a power ballad very much in the “Love is More Than a Feeling” style. “It’s about the despair of change,” says frontman. Justin Hawkins. “Having to reappraise your life and what you’re holding on to. It’s like that feeling when you just want to go for a swim and keep going. Wanting to be enveloped by something that will gradually pull you down. If you really, really want to survive that process, you can. We’ve all been there – people who say they haven’t are lying.”

THE GROWLERS – “FOGHORN TOWN”

The Growlers are getting ready to head out on a massive tour and release a new album, and here’s a new single from that, the inspiration for which might be a little surprising. “A lot of our songs were coming out on the darker, more sentimental side, so we decided to make something more upbeat,” says Taylor. “We all took a break, watched a documentary on Spandau Ballet, and wrote this riff that sounds a bit like ‘The Groove Line’ by Heatwave. More disco and energetic, just trying to keep it funky.”

WILDHONEY – “NAIVE CASTLE”

Baltimore dreampop band Wildhoney are set to release a new 7” next week via Slumberland and here’s the sparkling A-side which falls somewhere between The Cocteau Twins and The Sundays.

AMASON – GALAXY I (ALBUM STREAM)

Swedish supergroup Amason, which features Amanda Bergman (of Idiot Wind) Gustav Ejstes (Dungen), Pontus Winnberg (Miike Snow) and Petter Winnberg and Nils Törnqvist (Little Majorette), just released their second album, Galaxy 1. (Galaxy 2 is due in early 2020.) Like their debut album, there are elements of ‘70s rock, synthpop, and Sweden’s long pop heritage. It’s sleek, sultry and alluring thanks in no small part to Bergman’s amazing voice.

FRIENDLY FIRES – “INFLORESCENT”

Friendly Fires just released their first album in eight years which lays on thick the steel drum disco club music. Is that what Wham in 1985 would’ve sounded like today? We are not saying that’s a good or bad thing

MILEY CYRUS – “SLIDE AWAY”

Miley is in the midst of releasing an EP trilogy this year, and following the hip hop-inspired She Is Coming, she’s back with the uplifting pop of “Slide Away” which is presumably off EP2.

JORJA SMITH – “BE HONEST” (ft. BURNA BOY)

The great British neo-soul singer Jorja Smith recently appeared on the great new album by Nigerian Afro-fusion singer Burna Boy, and now she tapped Burna for her own new single, “Be Honest.” Once again, the two sound fantastic together.

VIC MENSA’S 93PUNX – “IT’S A BAD DREAM” (ft. GOOD CHARLOTTE)

Chicago rapper Vic Mensa shows off his love of rock music with his 93PUNX project, whose debut album comes out next week and features contributions from Travis Barker (who executive produced it), Tom Morello, HR of Bad Brains, Francis and the Lights, and more. The new single features Good Charlotte, and it unfortunately sounds a lot more like their music than like Vic Mensa’s.

NICKI MINAJ – “WELCOME TO THE PARTY” (remix of POP SMOKE)

Pop Smoke’s “Welcome to the Party” is one of the summer’s biggest breakout songs, and the latest person to show up to the party is Nicki Minaj, who’s got her own remix of the song. Nicki took the opportunity to go hard as all hell — it rules.

FROM INDIAN LAKES – “ULS”

From Indian Lakes are back with their second single of 2019, and following the breezy indie rock of “No One Else,” “ULS” sees them going in a similar emo-goes-synthy-art-pop direction to the last Foxing album. It also sounds a little like Imogen Heap. Check it out and catch From Indian Lakes on tour with Queen of Jeans.

OPETH – “DIGNITY”

A second single from the new Opeth album is out now. Opeth have been more prog than metal for a bit now, and this one is on some straightup King Crimson shit. It’s pretty cool!

A$AP FERG – “BUTT NAKED” (ft. RICO NASTY)

The new A$AP Ferg EP is out now, and one of the immediate highlights is “Butt Naked” which features a killer verse from Rico Nasty.

SOB X RBE – “LEGEND”

SOB x RBE (who now a trio without Yhung T.O.) are gearing up to release a new album called Strictly Only Brothers, and lead single “Legend” has them sounding as hungry as they did on their breakout songs.

THE DREW THOMSON FOUNDATION – “BARBED WIRE”

Single Mothers singer Drew Thomson is releasing his debut album as The Drew Thomson Foundation on September 6 via Dine Alone, and new single “Barbed Wire” has a riff that sounds like Saves The Day’s “Anywhere With You” and folky emo vibes that recall Get Up Kids offshoot The New Amsterdams.

BENT KNEE – “HOLD ME IN”

Genre-defying experimental rockers Bent Knee have a new album on the way, and you can read more about new single “Hold Me In” here.

CHRISTOPHER TIGNOR – “I, AUTOCORRELATIONS”

Modern classical composer Christopher Tignor has a new album on the way and tour dates with Low, This Will Destroy You, and more. More info on all of that here.
