Jawbreaker

2nd Jawbreaker doc screening and Q&A w/ Blake at Nitehawk added (BV Presents)

As mentioned, the new Jawbreaker documentary Don’t Break Down: A Film About Jawbreaker will screen at Williamsburg’s Nitehawk Cinema on August 31, as part of the BrooklynVegan-presented Music Driven signature film series. That screening is sold out, but a second one has been added for September 6 at 7:30 PM. Like the 8/31 screening, there will be a Q&A with frontman Blake Schwarzenbach. Tickets are on sale now. In case you missed it, here’s the film’s synopsis:

In 2007, 11 years after one of the most influential American punk bands, Jawbreaker, called it quits, the three members, Blake Schwarzenbach, Chris Bauermeister, and Adam Pfahler reconnect in a San Francisco recording studio to listen back to their albums, reminisce and even perform together one last time. Follow the band as they retell their “rags to riches to rags” story writhe with inner band turmoil, health issues, and the aftermath of signing to a major label. Featuring interviews with Billie Joe Armstrong, Steve Albini, Jessica Hopper, Graham Elliot, Chris Shifflet, Josh Caterer and more.

The 8/31 screening/Q&A (this Thursday) starts at 9:30 AM, and it’ll be immediately followed by an afterparty in Nitehawk’s downstairs bar Lo Res, where BrooklynVegan editor Andrew Sacher will DJ an hour of punk and emo (from about 11:15 PM to 12:15 AM). Hope to see you there!

Jawbreaker will also headline Riot Fest in September, which follows a recent tiny secret gig in California, which was their first show in 21 years.

No September screening for Music Driven announced yet, but in October, we have an L7 documentary with Donita Sparks in attendance.
