31 Days of Non-Stop Hip Hop happening with multiple events in Queens this May (schedule)
In addition to the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, this year Queens will also host the free 31 Days of Non-Stop Hip Hop in May. DNAInfo has the info:
Hip-hop legends, including DJ Kool Herc, Marley Marl, considered one of the most influential producers in the genre, and Zulu Nation, a hip-hop awarness group, will star during a month-long Queens Library project dubbed “31 Days of Non-Stop Hip Hop.”
As part the series, which includes a different hip-hop event every day, Queens locals will get to meet the music pioneers, learn about hip-hop history and study break dancing moves.
But they will also get to share their memories and hip-hop memorabilia with the library, which is launching the Hip-Hop Elements project, an attempt to create a hip-hop archive documenting its history in the borough, the library said.
“We want to capture and archive the heritage of hip-hop for future generations as part of the history of music and our collective culture,” said Joanne King, a spokeswoman for the library.

In related news, DJ Kool Herc DJs the Pete Seeger tribute happening as part of the 2014 Summerstage season.
There’s tons of free hip hop happening during Summerstage too, including many in Brooklyn, and a big one in Queens: Mobb Deep in Queensbridge Park on 7/17.
