Bat for Lashes

34 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

CHANCE THE RAPPER – “DO YOU REMEMBER” (ft. DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE)

Chance the Rapper’s new album is out now, and one of the highlights is “Do You Remember,” which was co-written and co-produced by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and features the entire Death Cab For Cutie, including hook sung by frontman Ben Gibbard. Read more about the album — and what about Death Cab had to say about the collab — here.

TAYLOR MCFERRIN – “MEMORY DIGITAL” (ft. ANNA WISE)

Taylor McFerrin, who’s opening Kamasi Washington’s BrooklynVegan-presented Jersey City show, has shared a second single off his upcoming album Love’s Last Chance. This one features frequent Kendrick Lamar collaborator Anna Wise, and it’s a smooth, catchy dose of jazz-soul.

BAT FOR LASHES – “FEEL FOR YOU”

Bat for Lashes is releasing her follow-up to 2016’s The Bride, Lost Girls, on September 6, and she’s shared another new single from it, “Feel For You,” which wears its heavy 80s influence on its sleeve.

SNUFF – “DIPPY EGG”

Long-running UK punks Snuff are releasing their new album There’s A Lot Of It About on September 20 via Fat Wreck Chords, and new single “Dippy Egg” is a dose of ska-tinged street punk that finds this veteran band in fine form.

LONGWAVE – “DREAMERS FLOAT AWAY”

Back from hibernation, NYC shoegazy indie rock outfit Longwave will release If We Live Forever, their first album in 11 years, on October 25. They’ve just shared a lovely new single, “Dreamers Float Away,” that is both understated and anthemic. “‘Dreamers Float Away’ is one of my favorite songs on the new Longwave record,” says frontman Steve Schiltz. “It was kind of a sleeper, a song that I wrote that wasn’t immediately popular amongst all 4 of us, but which fought its way to the end. To me, the song features a lot of the best of the 4 band members…Christian’s bass is melodic and rhythmically interesting, Jason’s drums are creative, but still kind of groovy, Shannon found some really beautiful guitar sounds as usual, and I even enjoy my vocals and lyrics here.” The video is pretty cool too:

MSTRKRFT – “BUFFALO FAT”

Canadian electronic duo MSTRKRFT (Death from Above’s Jesse F. Keeler and Al-P) are back with a new techno banger, “Buffalo Fat,” which is out via their own newly started label ORO. This one goes deep.

MY MORNING JACKET – “JOHN DYES HER HAIR RED”

My Morning Jacket are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album, The Tennessee Fire, with a deluxe edition of the album which will be out next week. This reissue matches the album’s 16 original cuts with 16 more, including previously unreleased demos, outtakes, alternate versions and more. One of those is “John Dyes Her Hair Red,” a low-fi demo that’s little beyond Jim James’ voice and distorted keyboards.

CORNELIUS – “SAUNA SUKISUGI”

Cornelius’ Keigo Oyamada is getting into film and television work. This song is for a television show called Sa-do which roughly translates to “way of the sauna.” It is based on based on a manga by Katsuki Tanaka that is about the joys of going to saunas, and “Sauna Sukisugi” is relaxing indeed. He’s also reissuing Point later this year.

PABLLO VITTAR – “FLASH POSE” FEAT. CHARLI XCX

Brazillian drag artist Pabllo Vittar’s new single, written by Aluna of AlunaGeorge, is her first entirely English language track. It features Charli XCX, who she worked with previously on Charli’x Pop 2 track “I Got It,” along with CupcakKe and Brooke Candy.

YACHT – “SCATTERHEAD”

Forward-thinking electronic pop outfit YACHT have announced details of their new album, which is titled Chain Tripping and out August 30 via DFA. As mentioned, they used AI software, which analyzed all of the group’s previous songs, to help write the album and you can get a taste of that with “Scatterhead” which is very catchy, danceable and sounds like YACHT. Check out the 4K lyric video below.

JIDENNA – “SUFI WOMAN” & “TRIBE”

Jidenna, who plays a free show in Prospect Park tonight, is back with two new songs. No word on a new album yet, but maybe this is the beginning of the rollout? Stay tuned.

CLAIRO – “SOFIA”

RICK ROSS – “GOLD ROSES” (ft. DRAKE)

BIG SEAN – “SINGLE AGAIN” (ft. JHENE AIKO & TY DOLLA $IGN)

Big Sean is already back with another new single, following “Overtime” from earlier this week. This one’s more on the R&B side, and it features backing vocals from Jhene Aiko and Ty Dolla $ign.

Lykke Li released So Sad So Sexy last year, and she’s followed it with this EP of remixes and alternate versions, plus two new tracks, “baby doves” and “neon.”

BLACK MILK – “BLACK NASA”

Detroit rapper Black Milk is releasing his new EP DiVE on August 2 via Mass Appeal/Computer Ugly, and following lead single “If U Say” (ft. BJ the Chicago Kid, who has a new album out today), he has shared “Black NASA.” This one features a hook by fellow Detroit artist Sam Austins, and Black Milk says the song “represents a place where I—and many people of color are from. We have to make something out of nothing, as opposed to people who are handed the tools for success.”

ICONA POP – “NEXT MISTAKE” (prod. HUDSON MOHAWKE)

Icona Pop are releasing a new album on Ultra Records at some point, and they just shared its new single “Next Mistake,” which was produced by Hudson Mohawke. The new song sees them diving head-first into ’90s-style Eurodance, and if you’ve got a soft spot for that kind of stuff, this song should scratch an itch.

DAVE MONKS (of TOKYO POLICE CLUB) – “DON’T GO FALLING TO PIECES”

Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks is releasing his debut solo album, On A Wave, on October 18 via Dine Alone, and the new single is “Don’t Go Falling To Pieces.” It starts out as the kind of folky indie rock that has real “going solo” vibes, but as the song progresses, Monks adds in E Street Band-style horns, vocal harmonies, and more.

THE HIGHWOMEN – “CROWDED TABLE”

There’s been a flurry of activity from The Highwomen, the country supergroup featuring Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby, in a short period of time. They announced their debut album, shared first single “Redesigning Women”, and covered Fleetwood Mac within a week. Today they perform at Newport Folk Festival, and they’ve shared another single, “Crowded Table,” which was written by Natalie Hemby and Lori McKenna.

PARDISON FONTAINE – “PEACH” (ft. CITY GIRLS)

Cardi B collaborator Pardison Fontaine is back with a new single, and this one features the unstoppably rising City Girls. You can probably tell from that artwork what “peach” is a reference to in this case.

WIZARD RIFLE – “V”

Portland stoner rockers Wizard Rifle are releasing their new self-titled album on August 30 via Svart Records, and the new song blends sludge riffs, Motorhead intensity, pop hooks, and psychedelia in trippy yet headbang-worthy ways. Listen below (via Heavy Blog Is Heavy).

TUMMYACHE – “MEDIAN”

Texas singer songwriter Soren Bryce records as Tummyache and will release her debut EP later this year. She’s just dropped new single “Median” which is a roaring dose of moody rock which would’ve sounded right at home on ’90s Alternative radio.

LET’S EAT GRANDMA – “OVERFLOW,” “GLITTERING,” “SALT LAKES”

Let’s Eat Grandma released the excellent I’m All Ears last year, and they’re sharing three more songs from last year, instrumental tracks that soundtrack an art installation by Tai Shani called Dark Continents: Semiramis.

TUFF SUNSHINE – “WE SEAL EVERY DEAL WITH A KISS”

Led by songwriter and guitarist Johnny Leitera (guitar/vocals) Tuff Sunshine will release their new album Dig Deeper, Peanut in October 2019 on Declared Goods. Here’s the first single, a slinky, swaggering number called “We Seal Every Deal With A Kiss” that glides along on acoustic guitars and rat-a-tat drums.

LIAM GALLAGHER – “ONCE”

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is releasing his sophomore solo album, Why Me? Why Not? on September 20, and he’s shared another new single from it, the schmaltzy “Once.” “‘Once’ is one of the best songs I’ve ever had the pleasure to be part of,” Liam tweeted, “and believe you me I’ve sang on many a great tune. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do”

JASON LYTLE (GRANDADDY) – “DRY GULCHED ON RODEO DRIVE”

Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle has a new album titled Arthur King Presents Jason Lytle: NYLONANDJUNO which is out August 16 via Dangerbird Records. It’s the latest installment in an ongoing experimental album series from creative collective Arthur King and, as hinted by the title, Jason made it using only a Juno synthesizer and a nylon-string acoustic guitar. “I wondered how working within these limitations would end up,” Lytle says of making the instrumental album. “Turns out it was a pretty fulfilling exercise just concentrating on going deep and trying to achieve certain feelings based on the song titles and subject matter I was chasing.”

THE EARLY NOVEMBER – “HIT BY A CAR (IN EUPHORIA)”

NJ emo vets The Early November announced their new album Lilac, and you can read more about lead single “Hit By A Car (In Euphoria)” here.

BLINK-182 – “DARKSIDE”

“Darkside” is the fourth single off blink-182’s upcoming album NINE, and it sees them injecting a little post-punk into their sound. Read more here.

LLOYD COLE – “THE LOUDNESS WARS”

Lloyd Cole’s first album in six years, Guesswork, has him dabbling in synthpop, but more in a grandiose, elegant way not unlike The Blue Nile or Prefab Sprout. He’s at his most clever on closing track, “The Loudness Wars” which is not about the state of audio mastering but a crumbling relationship.

B BOYS – “TASTE FOR TRASH”

Brooklyn trio B Boys dial down the Wire worship and start sounding like themselves on their third album, Dudu. You can still hear Colin Newman, Robert Gotobed, Graham Lewis and Bruce Gilbert in what they do but it’s more like lessons learned: keep it short, keep it catchy, not too many words, and lots of attitude. Dudu has the all that in spades, especially attitude, like on the absolutely killer penultimate cut “Taste for Trash,” a pedal-to-the-metal, bongo-fueled burner that all but justifies the existence of this album alone.
