3/4 of R.E.M. reunited at Atlanta benefit w/ members of Pylon & more (video)

Atlanta’s Fox Theatre hosted a special benefit event on Friday night (9/13) to support The Fox Theatre Institute, which supports historic theaters around Georgia. Hosted by Drivin N Cryin’s Kevn Kinney, the night featured sets from Drive by Truckers, Drivin N Cryin, Michelle Malone and a surprise set from 3/4ths of R.E.M.: guitarist Peter Buck, drummer Bill Berry and bassist Mike Mills. With no Michael Stipe on hand they had Kinney sing on “Fall on Me” and “The One I Love,” and Mike Mills sang “Texarkana” (as he does on Out of Time). They also had a few very cool, old-school Athens scene special guests. They brought out Pylon’s Vanessa Briscoe Hay to sing on their cover of Pylon’s “Crazy,” Georgia Satellites’ Rick Richards came out for his band’s “Battleship Chains” and Tom Gray of The Brains came out for his band’s “Money Changes Everything” (famously covered by Cyndi Lauper). You can watch video of “Crazy,” “The One I Love” and “Texarkana,” below.
