5 New Songs Out Today

Rotting Christ

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

ROTTING CHRIST – “HEAVEN AND HELL AND FIRE”

Greek black metal vets Rotting Christ are gearing up to release lucky number 13, The Heretics, on February 15 via Season of Mist, and they’ve shared “Heaven and Hell and Fire” from that. It’s a sinister, militant song, and it’s a return to a more melodic sound for Rotting Christ. “It’s back to the basics with The Heretics. Back to the riff and melodically-based songs,” frontman Sakis Tolis told Loudwire.

MALIBU KEN (AESOP ROCK & TOBACCO) – “CORN MAZE”

Aesop Rock and TOBACCO have shared the second single from their self-tiled collaborative album as Malibu Ken. Like lead single “Acid King,” “Corn Maze” is trippy and weird in all the best ways and TOBACCO’s psychedelic production is the perfect backdrop for Aesop’s wordy, dizzying raps.

CURREN$Y – “FLATBED FERRARI”

Curren$y will release Weed & Instrumentals 3 on Christmas Eve, and it will include his new remix of Playboi Carti’s “Flatbed Freestyle” (retitled “Flatbed Ferrari”). The original is quintessential modern-day auto-tune sing-rapping, but Curren$y turns the song into a blunted throwback.

INVADA XMAS MIX 2019

Invada, the record label founded by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, has just released their Xmas Mix 2018 which some of you may be glad to learn features no holiday music whatsoever, and is instead full of tracks from Invada’s releases this year. The mix includes tracks from Barrow’s other band, Beak>, his score for Anhilliation with Ben Salisbury, Johann Johannsson Mandy score, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein’s Stranger Things: Halloween Sounds From The Upside Down, Alex Somers & Sigur Rós’ Black Mirror score, Clint Mansell, Jonny Greenwood’s You Were Never Really Here score, The KVB and more.

CANDLEMASS – “THE OMEGA CIRCLE”

Doom metal legends Candlemass recently reunited with Epicus Doomicus Metallicus singer Johan Langquist, and they’re set to release their first new album with him in over three decades, The Door To Doom, on February 22 via Napalm Records. Very excitingly, it features Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi on the song “Astorolus – The Great Octopus.” You’ll have to wait to hear that one, but now you can hear lead single “The Omega Circle.” It sounds like Langquist hasn’t lost his touch one bit, and these riffs crush.
