41 New Songs Out Today
So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…
JASON ISBELL AND THE 400 UNIT – “DREAMSICLE”
The fourth single off the upcoming Jason Isbell album is here, and it’s a typically great dose of folky Americana.

JESSIE WARE – “OOH LA LA”
What’s Your Pleasure?, Jessie Ware’s new album, is out June 19 and she’s just released a new single from it. Co-written with Shungudzo Kuyimba, Model Child (Danny Parker) and James Ford, it’s a bubbly blend of pop styles from the last 40 years (with a lot of ’80s in there).

ANDY SHAUF – “YOU SLIPPED AWAY”
Andy Shauf, who released The Neon Skyline back in January, is back with “You Slipped Away,” a new single he’s releasing exclusively through Amazon Music. ‘You Slipped Away’ was an early demo during The Neon Skyline sessions, but as the album storyline evolved, this song lost its place in the narrative,” Shauf explained. “I’d forgotten about it until fairly recently, and realized it sort of worked on its own.”

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT – “ALONE TIME”
“‘Alone Time’ is the end title of my upcoming album, Unfollow the Rules,” says Rufus Wainwright of this song that takes on new meaning currently. “An old school record that attempts to take the listener on a rich journey through the myriad of experiences of this thing we call ‘life.’ It is my belief that with everyone and everything, ultimately, all conclusions are about solitude and the acceptance of that fact, and that often this is a very beautiful realization. But today, in these dark times, I’m thinking a lot about the thousands of people who, due to COVID-19, are forced to experience intense isolation at the end of their days in order to save others, and the incredible fear that that must entail. This track is humbly dedicated to them; it is a wish of hope and a prayer for grace that they feel some sense of joy and comfort in knowing they are performing such an incredible act of sacrifice for humanity.” It’s gorgeous stuff.

BOAT – “LONELINESS KILLS”
Seattle indie rock flag-flyers are finally set to release new album Tread Lightly — their first in seven years — next week and here’s one last sneak peak. “Loneliness” is a low-fi anthem that is another great example of BOAT’s easy way with a melody, this time with a bit of a ’60s flair to it.

BSF (BENNY THE BUTCHER, RICK HYDE, HEEM) – “DA MOB” & “QUARANTINE”
Benny the Butcher’s Black Soprano Family label inked a deal with eOne, and they’ll release the DJ Drama-presented Gangsta Grillz mixtape Da Respected Sopranos this June, and the first two singles are “Da Mob” and “Quarantine,” which Benny made with fellow BSF members Rick Hyde and Heem. FLUNKIE – “EVERYBODY FEELS”
flunkie is releasing pure optimist via Forged Artifacts on May 22, and she’s shared the first single, “everybody feels,” via Gold Flake Paint. It’s a delicate, melancholy track that fans of Julien Baker would likely enjoy, and it’s the perfect listen for a rainy afternoon.

THE WEAPON (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE’S JESSE LEACH) – “SLAVE STATE”
Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach has been ambient music lately, and now he released a quarantine video of his punk band The Weapon debuting a new song, “Slave State.” It sounds more like ’80s hardcore than like Killswitch Engage, and it’s pretty badass.

WIFIGAWD & TONY SELTZER – “TEN TOES” (ft. THE KHAN & WIKI)
DC rapper WiFiGawd and NYC producer Tony Seltzer dropped the collaborative Heat Check, Vol. 2 today, and especially of note is the closing track featuring Wiki.

PROBLEM – “G SHIT”
Compton rapper Problem follows “Don’t Be Mad At Me” with this laid-back, blunted new song.

LIL PUMP & ANUEL AA – “ILLUMINATI”
SoundCloud rap giant Lil Pump teams with Latin trap star Anuel AA for this very expensive looking and sounding trap song and video.

KALI UCHIS – TO FEEL ALIVE EP
Alt-pop/RR&B singer Kali Uchis had to delay her sophomore album, but in the meantime, she dropped this home-recorded four-song EP. Pretty cool stuff, and if this is what the home-recorded stuff sounds like, can’t wait to hear the “real” album.

JUICE WRLD – “RIGHTEOUS”
The first posthumous single by the late emo-rapper Juice WRLD has arrived.

TRAVIS SCOTT & KID CUDI – “THE SCOTTS”
Following Kid Cudi’s new trad-rap-inspired single “Leader of the Delinquents,” he teamed with Travis Scott to debut this poppier new song in Fortnite, and now you can hear it outside of Fortnite too.

DANIEL ROMANO – SUPER POLLEN (ft. mems of FUCKED UP)
Daniel Romano has dropped a new EP that he made with Fucked Up’s Mike Haliechuk and Jonah Falco, and as you may expect given their involvement, it’s a little punkier and more hard-hitting than Romano’s usual stuff. Cool to hear him in this realm!

REBEL WIZARD – “NOT RAIN BUT THE WIZARDS TEARS”
Self-proclaimed “heavy negative wizard metal” band Rebel Wizard will release Magickal Mystical Indifference on July 10 via Prosthetic, and you can read more about this new single at Invisible Oranges.

PARADISE LOST – “GHOSTS”
UK death-doom vets Paradise Lost recently released “Fall From Grace” off their upcoming album Obsidian (due 5/15 via Nuclear Blast), and though that first single found the band operating in their classic death-doom realm, new single “Ghosts” is more like a metallic version of ’80s goth/deathrock. Not bad.

DUCK SAUCE – “I DON’T MIND”
Duck Sauce (aka A-Trak and Armand Van Helden) were supposed to play Coachella this month, and obviously that didn’t happen, but meanwhile they continue to release new songs after returning in January with their first in six years. Here’s another infectiously thumping house jam.

GOGO PENGUIN – “F MAJ PIXIE”
GoGo Penguin make live-band music that sounds like electronic music, and in case you didn’t believe it’s really acoustic, this live performance video of their gorgeous new song lets you in on just how acoustic it really is.

YOUNG DOLPH – “SUNSHINE”
Just like everybody else, Young Dolph’s been quarantining, as he tells you on this appealing yet depressing song about the coronavirus pandemic.

RAVYN LENAE – “REWIND”
There are always great songs premiering in Insecure, and here’s an airy new R&B jam from Ravyn Lenae that you’ll hear in this Sunday’s episode.

JIDENNA – “FENG SHUI”
This Afropop-inspired Jidenna song will be in the new Insecure episode too.

C.H.E.W. – IN DUE TIME
Chicago punks C.H.E.W. dropped this five-song EP on Iron Lung Records, and if you like your punk loud, fast, short, and chaotic with just a hint of melody, you should check this out.

ORANGE GOBLIN – “THE DEVIL’S WHIP” (LIVE)
Live albums and films matter more than ever since there are no new live shows to attend, so it’s good news that British stoner metal vets Orange Goblin are releasing Rough & Ready, Live & Loud on May 1 in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Here’s the first taste.

RAJA KUMARI – “N.R.I.”
Indian American rapper Raja Kumari is releasing a new EP, The Bridge, this summer via Mass Appeal India, and it includes this absolute banger, about which Raja says, “This single stems from the duality of being from two different cultures, while being told you don’t quite belong in either of them. N.R.I. stands for non-resident of India, and is used as a derogatory term for “not really indian” for people born outside of India, in the diaspora. In America, I was asked to leave behind my culture and assimilate, and in India, I was told I didn’t belong to my culture because I wasn’t born here. I decided to re-claim this term and make it my own.”

GHOST WORK (SEAWEED, SNAPCASE, MILEMARKER, MINUS THE BEAR) – “GO STAT”
Ghost Work — Seaweed frontman Aaron Stauffer, Snapcase bassist Dustin Perry, former/classic era Milemarker guitarist Sean Husick, and former/classic era Minus the Bear drummer Erin Tate — have shared another track off their upcoming debut album You’ll Be Buried With, and like the first single, it’s a ’90s-style post-hardcore ripper and it’s no surprise a lineup like this can pull it off.

FIVIO FOREIGN – “DEMONS & GOBLINS” (ft. MEEK MILL)
New York drill rapper (and collaborator of the late Pop Smoke) Fivio Foreign released his new 800 BC project today, and especially of note is this song featuring Meek Mill.

GARY OLSON – “SOME ADVICE”
Ladybug Transistor frontman Gary Olson releases his solo debut on May 29 and here’s a second song from it. His sonorous voice sounds great against the light acoustic guitars of the poppy “Some Advice.”

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK – “HOUSE PARTY” (FEAT. BOYZ II MEN, BIG FREEDIA, JORDIN SPARKS, & NAUGHTY BY NATURE)
Veteran boy band New Kids on the Block have teamed up with Naughty by Nature, Boyz II Men, bounce queen Big Freedia and American Idol winner Jordan Sparks — because of course they did — for this very lockdown-centric single that benefits charity No Kid Hungry. “We hope this song brings you joy during this difficult time” say the group. The video has some other cameos, including Ken Jeong.

DESIRE – “BLACK LATEX”
While we wait for Chromatics’ Dear Tommy (which is maybe finally coming out?), you can get your Italodisco fix with this new single from Desire who toured with Chromatics last year. The video for “Black Latex” was directed by Chromatics Johnny Jewel, too. Desire’s album, Escape, is due out later this year via Italians Do it Better.

THE VACANT LOTS – “RESCUE”
Post-punk inspired duo The Vacant Lots will release new album Interzone on June 26 via Fuzz Club. You can get an early taste via single “Rescue” which bings to mind Jesus and Mary Chain and Love & Rockets…

FIELD MEDIC – “-H-O-U-S-E-K-E-Y-Z-“
Kevin Patrick Sullivan is releasing a new Field Medic single every month and here’s the latest. “-h-o-u-s-e-k-e-y-z-” was recorded by Sullivan at him home and is an engaging example of his style of folk pop. Meanwhile he’s also released the third episode of “The Field Medic Show” which you can watch below.

EASY – “DAY FOR NIGHT”
Swedish band Easy have been around since the late-’80s, having released their debut album, Magic Seed, back in 1990 via Mute/Blast First. They’re still going and will release new album Radical Innocence on May 1 via A Turntable Friend Records. Their chiming, lightly shoegazy style still sounds great on this single from the record.

ALANIS MORISSETTE – “DIAGNOSIS”
Alanis Morissette’s new album Such Pretty Forks in the Road is due out May 1, and the latest single she’s shared from it is “Diagnosis,” a piano and strings ballad.

MINISTRY – “ALERT LEVEL” (QUARANTINED MIX)
“We finished the song in January and it sounded great during rehearsals for our Australia/Japan tour dates, before we went into quarantine,” Al Jourgensen says of Ministry’s new single. “The original plan was to finish the new record before the July ‘Industrial Strength’ US tour so we could have an Election Day release, but in lieu of the circumstances—and how relevant the song feels for these bizarre times—we decided to release ‘Alert Level’ now.”

EARL SWEATSHIRT – “WHOLE WORLD” (ft. MAXO, prod. THE ALCHEMIST)
Earl Sweatshirt will release a deluxe edition of last year’s great FEET OF CLAY on June 26 via Tan Cressida/Warner, and it’ll feature two new songs, including this one. Read more here.

WINO – “ISOLATION” (JOY DIVISION COVER)
A lot of people have been covering Joy Division’s “Isolation” lately for obvious reasons, but Wino has actually been playing his version of this song live for years, and his just-released studio version of the song is from his upcoming solo album. Read more here.
