5 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

ARA MALIKIAN – “THE ROUGH DOG” (ft. SERJ TANKIAN)

Violinist Ara Malikian released a new song, “The Rough Dog,” featuring guest lead vocals by System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian. It’s as weird and spastic as you’d expect from a song with Serj involved, and Ara really makes his violin scream.

BATHS – “CLARENCE DIFFERENCE”

Baths (aka Will Wiesenfeld) has a new song, the delicate and pretty “Clarence Difference,” which is being released as a flexi, as part of weekly zine that comes with Yes Plz, a new coffee subscription company. The zine’s music issue also has features on Charles Bradley, Sam Wilkes, Black Belt Eagle Scout, and Tom Schnabel.

FINE JEWELERS (ft. MATT KORVETTE OF PISSED JEANS) – BRAINDANCE THROUGH THE MIDNIGHT D-BEAT EP

Pissed Jeans frontman Matt Korvette is also one half of the new industrial synth-punk duo Fine Jewelers, and their debut EP Braindance Through the Midnight D-Beat is out now. Three of its four tracks are streaming, they’re the kind of fast-paced, abrasive synth workouts you could imagine hearing after midnight in a goth club. Check it out.

WILLIAM TYLER – “CALL ME WHEN I’M BREATHING AGAIN” (FT MEG DUFFY/HAND HABITS)

William Tyler’s new album Goes West is out January 25 via Merge and the record features a couple tracks with Meg Duffy (aka Hand Habits). One of those, “Call Me When I’m Breathing Again,” you can listen to now in the form of a live video they recorded at the L.A. outpost of Zebulon.”In the two years since I moved to Los Angeles, the new incarnation of Zebulon has become not just a haven for friends and musical discoveries but also an incubator of collaboration,” says Tyler. “Both Meg and I have done residencies there—in fact, it’s the first place we ever played as a duo. It holds a magical place in my mind for this album, and getting to revisit this song with Meg again was really special.” Watch the video below.

BE FOREST – BENGALA

Italian dreampop band Be Forest will be back with their first album in four years, titled Knocturne, on February 8 via We Were Never Boring. You can get an early taste with the gorgeous, ethereal and moody “Bengala” that has some serious Slowdive vibes. The band are also playing some shows in the U.S. around SXSW — be on the lookout.
