Old '97s - 'Love the Holidays'

7 New Holiday Songs Released This Week

The holiday season is rapidly approaching and whether you’re feeling festive or not, musicians have started the annual tradition of releasing songs for the occasion. We offer to you a week’s worth of them, nestled in one place, like gifts under a tree.

OLD 97’s – LOVE THE HOLIDAYS (ALBUM STREAM)

The Old 97’s new album Love The Holidays is their first collection of original Christmas songs (plus a cover of the old New Year’s Eve standard, “Auld Lang Syne”). The band is getting extra festive with a “Holiday Extravaganza!” tour starting after Thanksgiving, too.

DELICATE STEVE – “THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM”

NJ-based guitarist Delicate Steve shared an album consisting of instrumental guitar renditions of many holiday classics, including “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” and others. He’ll also be playing a couple of holiday-themed shows next month; first at NYC’s Elsewhere on 12/11 with Sam Evian, then at NJ’s The Stanhope House on 12/22.

KATY PERRY – “COZY LITTLE CHRISTMAS”

Katy Perry’s newest single has the ringing sleigh bells, a bouncy, mid-tempo rhythm, and powerhouse vocals you’d expect from a festive pop song. It’s not quite “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” but it’s still an upbeat, cozy track perfect for the holiday season – that’s only currently available to Amazon Prime subscribers.

TYLER, THE CREATOR – MUSIC INSPIRED BY ILLUMINATION & DR. SUESS’ THE GRINCH (EP STREAM)

In addition to his contributions to the sountrack to the new Grinch remake, Tyler, the Creator released an EP with a few more new Grinch-inspired songs, including “Big Bag,” which finds him rapping about the Christmases of his childhood.

KIESZA AND CHRIS MALINCHAK – “I ONLY LOVE YOU AT CHRISTMAS”

Pop singer Kiesza and producer Chris Malinchak teamed up for this bubbly Christmas track, which has the former singing about love around the holidays, with the latter chiming in during a few call-and-response sections.

SCONE CASH PLAYERS – SCONE COLD CHRISTMAS 7″

The Adam Scone-led group Scone Cash Players announced a new 7″ this week, containing two holiday-themed originals. The first track “My First Divorced Christmas (Santa Clause Got a Divorce)” puts a spin on the typical themes found in Christmas songs, while the second song “They Say It’s Christmas Time (Christmas Time In Brooklyn)” offers a more traditional holiday theme, with an NYC-focused backdrop.

ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK

Veteran English vocalist Engelbert Humperdinck recently shared a new Christmas record, Warmest Christmas Wishes, which is exactly what you’d expect from the crooner, a more traditional take on several holiday favorites.
