7 New Metal Songs Out This Week

This week gave us new music from from Russian Circles, Pelican, Falls of Rauros, Abyssal, All Out War and more. Read on for all the metal (and metal-adjacent) songs we posted on BV this week…

RUSSIAN CIRCLES – “ARLUCK”

Chicago’s Russian Circles are back with their seventh album, Blood Year, which will be out August 2 via Sargent House. The trio made the bulk of the record live in studio without click tracks, aiming to capture the power of their live shows. You can get a feel for that with the towering “Arluck.”

PELICAN – “COLD HOPE”

Need more instrumental metal? Pelican have just shared another track from their new album Nighttime Stories which is out in a couple weeks. “Cold Hope” is a pummeling ripper that also knows how to soar.

FALLS OF RAUROS – “WEAPONS OF REFUSAL”

Portland, ME’s Falls of Rauros have been together since the mid-’00s, making a brand of black metal you could call elegant in a punishing kind of way. “Weapons of Refusal,” from their upcoming Patterns in Mythology, could soundtrack a royal ceremony (albeit an extremely visceral, intense one). Check the song out over at Revolver.

ABYSSAL — “II – DISCERNMENT: KHYPHOTIC SUZERAINS”

UK dark ambient death metal project Abyssal — who play some U.S. shows this week — unleashed a new track off their highly anticipated forthcoming record on Profound Lore. Invisible Oranges had the premiere today, and wrote: Abyssal aim “for ambiance over concrete detail, abstraction over sheer resolution, depth over breadth… Soon, the group will be returning with their fourth full-length A Beacon in the Husk, taking the cavern-based formula to the next level by introducing swaths of new dynamics, including a much more patient pace and more delicate attention to detail.” Read more at IO.

GAAHLS WYRD – GASTIR – GHOSTS INVITED (ALBUM STREAM)

The infamous black metal veteran Gaahl (Gorgoroth, Wardruna) already streamed the first two songs off GastiR – Ghosts Invited, the new album from his Gaahls WYRD project. It’s due out May 31 via Season of Mist, but you can stream the whole thing now ahead of that.

ALL OUT WAR – “JUDAS ALWAYS CRAWLS”

Long-running NYHC/metal-core band All Out War are releasing a new album, Crawl Among the Filth, on July 26 via Unbeaten Records, and they’ve shared first single “Judas Always Crawls”

IMMORTAL BIRD – “VESTIGIAL WARNINGS”

Chicago’s Immortal Bird release their sophomore album (and first for 20 Buck Spin) on July 5. Following first single “Anger Breeds Contempt” they’ve shared “Vestigial Warnings.” Vocalist Rae Amitay says, “This was the first full song we wrote together as our current configuration, and we’ve been playing it together for almost two years. Finally having it recorded and released feels like a significant step. Lyrically, this one is more ‘political’ than the rest of the material on the album. I’m not trying to be indirect by using metaphor, but I also don’t want to limit people’s perspective by being overt. With the ‘eyeless, glowing grubs…sickly white, dying still…choir of weakened gasping…,’ I’m not saying that I was thinking about certain people who occupy positions of power in this country but… Actually, that is what I’m saying. ‘They’ll tell you this is how it has to be. Abandon hope and worship apathy.’”
