MIKE War In My Pen

8 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

STONEY WILLIS – “NU STOGIE” (ft. EARL SWEATSHIRT)

Earl Sweatshirt, whose Some Rap Songs just came in at #18 on our top 50 albums of 2018 list, lends his voice to a new single by his longtime collaborator Stoney Willis. It’s closer to the dark, ominous, horror-rap of early Odd Future than to the patchwork soul of Some Rap Songs, so don’t sleep on this if you miss that stuff.

MIKE – WAR IN MY PEN (ALBUM STREAM)

MIKE, one of the current leaders of New Weird New York, continues his prolific 2018 with the release of the 13-song project War In My Pen, featuring collaborators like Navy Blue, Medhane, Taphari, and King Carter. Navy Blue is also on the aforementioned new Earl Sweatshirt album, and if you like that album but haven’t heard MIKE, start here.

NEON INDIAN – “HEAVEN’S BASEMENT” (THEME FROM 86’D)

Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo has made a short film titled 86’d:

Shot on 16mm over the course of three nights, it was an ambitious undertaking for all parties involved but honestly making it was such a blast that at times felt like just that, a party. I’m eternally grateful to all the wonderful people that came together to realize this kooky project and proud to finally be able to share it with music and movie goers alike.

Alan’s shared the 86’d theme song, “Heaven’s Basement,” in a special vocal version. Listen to that and watch 86’d (NSFW):

RIVERS CUOMO – “TWO BROKEN HEARTS”

Rivers Cuomo may not have actually watched the SNL Weezer sketch yet, but he is angling for laughs in the video for this cutesy solo single “Two Broken Hearts,” featuring Bitmoji characters and random footage of Rivers.

THE C.I.A. (TY SEGALL) – THE C.I.A. (FULL ALBUM)

The C.I.A. — aka Ty and Denee Segall — released their debut album today via In the Red. Unlike anything else Ty’s been a part of before, it’s dark, weird post-punk heavy on drum machines and vintage synths.

VALEE – “ABOUT U” (ft. DRAM)

Valee tops off his killer breakout year with one more single, “About U,” which features a verse from DRAM and an eerie, floating synth over the hook.

21 SAVAGE – I AM > I WAS (ALBUM STREAM)

21 Savage snuck in his sophomore album before the end of 2018, and it features J Cole, Childish Gambino, Post Malone, Offset of Migos, City Girls, Schoolboy Q, Project Pat, Lil Baby & Gunna, and more.

A BOOGIE WIT DA HOODIE – HOODIE SZN (ALBUM STREAM)

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie also snuck in his sophomore album before the end of 2018, and it features Offset, Tyga, Juice WRLD, Queen Naija, Young Thug, and more.
