9 New Songs Out Today

Confidence Man
Confidence Man

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

New York production duo Take A Daytrip started to rise after producing Sheck Wes’ “Mo Bamba,” and they came into 2019 swinging with an Octavian collab, just days after Octavian had won the BBC Sound of 2019. Now they’re gearing up for a new project called Take A Daytrip vs. London, and they’ve shared this star-studded new song, featuring two of the most exciting rappers of the moment, slowthai and Rico Nasty, and recent slowthai tourmate ICECOLDBISHOP. That much talent on one song sets the bar pretty high, and “Lighthouse” delivers.

Mark Ronson is releasing a soundtrack EP for Spies In Disguise, the upcoming animated spy comedy film with Will Smith and Tom Holland (which gets released on Christmas), and it includes this new collab with Anderson .Paak. It finds the two artists offering up their take on classic, ’70s-style soul, and there’s a bit of a Bond Theme vibe to this too which makes sense considering it was written for a spy film. The soundtrack also includes a new Mark Ronson/Dodgr song, the De La Soul collab from the new DJ Shadow album, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock’s “It Takes Two,” and more.

Kitschy Australian dance duo Confidence Man are back with new single “Does it Make You Feel Good?,” that’s an old-school, string-laden, disco banger. The video features pretty much what you’d expect: churches, lambs, black-veiled dancers, and light-up braziers.

Jason Anderson continues his process of releasing one “lost” project a month in 2019 with his penultimate release, “Time.” This one sees him exploring melancholic indie-synth-heartland rock. Fans of The War On Drugs and Phosphorescent are gonna wanna hear this one.

Haim’s latest single trades slick pop for alt-country balladry, with another video directed by frequent collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson. The band says, “this song is for anyone struggling with chronic illness and the people around us who we truly rely on for help and guidance.”

“Nihilist Headlines” is a just-released, non-album track from the sessions for 2017’s Our Pleasure, and you can read more about it here.

If you need a little more poppy indie rock for your holiday playlist, Letters to Cleo are here with the four-song OK Christmas EP that includes covers of songs by The Kinks (“Father Christmas”), Elvis (“If I Get Home On Christmas Day”) and the Dogmatics (“X Mas Time – Sure Don’t Feel Like It”) plus an original, “Miss You This Christmas.”

Yorkshire-based producer Craven Faults has released three EPs so far and will let forth his full-length debut, Erratics & Unconformities, on January 10 via The Leaf Label. If you dig proggy, ambient analogue synth work along the lines of Tangerine Dream or Harmonia, you will probably be into first single “Deipkier.”

urt Valley, the folk-pop project of California songwriter Brian Collins, is the latest addition to the Woodsist roster. Debut album Glacial Pace will be out December 6. (Pre-order yours.) His laid-back, slightly twangy and very California style fits in perfect on a label that’s been home to Woods, Kevin Morby and Hand Habits.
