9 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review five new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, show recaps, track premieres, and more all day. That includes a lot of tour announcements, a list of tonight’s NYC shows, and NY shows that just went on sale. We publish a monthly playlist of some of our favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place…

SAM COHEN – “MAN ON FIRE”

Sam Cohen’s new album, The Future’s Still Ringing In My Ears, is out next week on Danger Mouse’s 30th Century label, and here’s a new track from it that manages to be baroque, funky, soulful and psychedelic. You can catch Sam on tour with Kevin Morby (and playing in his band, too).

CULT OF LUNA – “THE SILENT MAN”

Post-metal greats Cult of Luna are gearing up to release a new album this year, and while title and release date are still TBA, they did unleash the lead single which we wrote more about here.

MAC DEMARCO – “ONE EVENING” (FEIST COVER)

“This is a song by the queen of Canada,” Mac DeMarco says to introduce this cover of “One Evening” from Feist’s 2004 album Let it Die. It was recorded backstage at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Mac appeared last week to perform “All Our Yesterdays” from Here Comes the Cowboy, due out Friday.

AARON WEST AND THE ROARING TWENTIES – “BURY ME ANYWHERE ELSE”

The Wonder Years singer Dan Campbell’s new Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties album comes out this Friday and one last pre-release single is out from it now. We also spoke to Dan about the music he’s been listening to lately, and you can read that here.

TOMB MOLD – “INFINITE RESURRECTION”

Rising death metallers Tomb Mold have officially announced their anticipated new album and released a new single, which we wrote more about here.

THE MINUS 5 – “BEATLES FOREVER (LITTLE RED)”

Made while recovering from a stroke, Scott McCaughey’s new Minus 5 album was originally a Record Store Day exclusive and is now getting a proper release in June. The LP features Jeff Tweedy, Corin Tucker, Peter Buck and more.

LOAMLANDS – “SOME BOYS YOU DON’T NEED”

Loamlands, the project of Kym Register, is back with Lez Dance, which is out June 7 on Crusin Records. “Some Boy You Don’t Need” is much rawer than the lush country/folk of Loamlands’ 2016 debut album, with just Kym and their guitar.

HOLY HIVE – “THE THINGS THEMSELVES” (FEAT. SASAMI & MARY LATTIMORE)

Holy Hive, whose members have worked with Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, and others, release their debut EP on Big Crown Records, Harping, on May 24. New single “The Things Themselves” features Sasami on vocals, and Mary Lattimore plays harp on the whole EP.

WILDHONEY – “KISS ME” (SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER COVER)

Part of the Slumberland Records SLR30 Singles Series, this dreamy cover of the Sixpence None the Richer hit is the b-side to “Naive Castle,” the first new music from the band (who have relocated to the West Coast from Baltimore) in over two years.
