ABC No Rio (as we know it) hosted its final show, presenting gigs at Silent Barn & Aviv

Legendary New York art space ABC No Rio has been planning on replacing its current building with a new, “green” structure for seven years now. Architect Paul Castrucci recently said it will be “one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the city.” There currently aren’t any demolition permits on file with the Department of Buildings, as Bowery Boogie points out, but plans to raze the property and rebuild on the same location have already begun to take effect.

This weekend, the space hosted its final shows in the old building with a Saturday hardcore (6/25) matinee show, featuring a reunited Disassociate (as well as As$troland, Agitätor, and Mad Diesel) and ended on its Sunday (6/26) experimental music series COMA featuring a long list of artists curated by Blaise Siwula who has been hosting the event since 1998. Some pics and videos of the performances are below.

In the meantime, ABC No Rio will be presenting “ABC No Rio in Exile” at other NYC venues including Silent Barn (who have a likeminded approach to ABC No Rio, but usually host less rowdy shows) and Aviv. That includes the Silent Barn stop of Frameworks’ tour. Check out the full schedule here, and stay tuned for more.
