ACL Fest Weekend 1 Saturday pics (Chance the Rapper, Spoon, more)

After opening the headlining set with “Mixtape,” a lament that he’s the “only n**ga still care about mixtapes” (Coloring Book was his third), he took to the pulpit. Even without hymnals, the crowd sang every word to “Blessings” along with its author (aka Chancelor Bennett), who was accentuated by brass lines from his right-hand man Nico Segal, also known as Donnie Trumpet. Together, they punctuated the refrain:

“I’m goin’ to praise Him.
Praise Him ‘til I’m gone.”

Segal, along with four backup singers, were integral to the live iteration of Coloring Book. Chance’s energy and delivery were turned up to 100, but “Angels” came alive via the horn man and the bold vocal harmonies surrounding Chance’s rapping. – [Austin Chronicle]

The second day of Austin City Limits Weekend 1 saw set from headliners Chance the Rapper, local heroes Spoon, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as Angel Olsen, Ice Cube, Car Seat Headrest, Thundercat, Tove Lo and more. Pictures from those Saturday performances (minus RHCP) and more are in the gallery above.

You can check out our pics from Friday of Weekend 1 HERE and stay tuned for Sunday pics. ACL does it again with the same lineups this weekend (10/13 – 10/14) in Zilker Park.
