Active Bird Community releasing 'Amends' on Barsuk (stream a track)

Brooklyn indie rockers Active Bird Community have inked a deal with Barsuk Records for their next album Amends, and going by the early singles, Amends should feel right at home on Barsuk. New single “Unwind With Me” — which premieres in this post, along with its video — is driving, crunchy indie rock that does not hold back from huge, emotive hooks. Fans of classic Barsuk-related stuff like Nada Surf, Harvey Danger, early Death Cab, Kind of Like Spitting, etc, or more recent Barsuk bands like Cymbals Eat Guitars (who ABC have toured with), will probably find this instantly enjoyable. Check it out, along with the recently-released non-album single “Spend The Night,” below.

Of the new song “Unwind With Me,” singer/guitarist Tom D’Agustino says:

I don’t think I realized until after the song was finished that it sort of felt like I was declaring bankruptcy on myself. It was finished during a pretty confusing time in my life — my relationship was ending, I had gotten sick with shingles, and it became clear that my life wasn’t going in the right direction or any direction really. I felt like I could take back some control and unravel everything, so I could get back to some sort of starting line. In doing so, I understood that even if tearing down and rebuilding hurts, it’s alright because I’m moving forward, I’m willing a change…

Active Bird Community are also touring this fall, starting with a hometown show on September 27 at Rough Trade. Tickets for that show are on AmEx presale now and the public on-sale starts Friday (6/15) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
