ADULT. prep new album, share "Why Always Why," touring

Detroit electronic duo ADULT. will release new album Perception is/as/of Deception on April 10 via DAIS. They made it what they call a “temporary blackhole” (their basement which they painted entirely black, including the windows) with the sole intention being to “deprive their senses, question their perceptions, and witness the resulting ramifications.”

The first single is electo-noir banger “Why Always Why” which the band note “is a brief phrase taken from a line in Jean Cocteau’s film, Testament of Orpheus. From Cocteau’s view, the phrase may have represented a moment of self-analysis, but in our view it represented a moment of analysis of society and culture. The repeating theme of herd mentality. Dullness in consuming. A perception of how consuming may make everything alright. The sentiment here is a sentiment of the forever outsider. Of the person who feels as if they were dumped into some strange landscape, with no escape.” If you need any further clarification on ADULT.’s intent, the “Why Always Why” video opens with a quote from dystopian writer JG Ballard. Watch that below.

ADULT. will be on tour with Body of Light across North America this spring including a Brooklyn show at Market Hotel on May 7. Tickets for that show go on sale Thursday, February 27 at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
