Afropunk After Dark events: Fancy Dress Ball w/ Cakes da Killa & more

fancy-dress

Afropunk Fest is this weekend and, in addition to the main programming’s killer lineup (Solange, Soul II Soul, Dizzee Rascal, Sampha, Thundercat, tons more), there is also the official Afropunk After Dark programming that includes, music, film, comedy and more. The biggest of these is arguably the annual Fancy Dress Ball which happens this year at Schimanski on Saturday (8/26). Cakes da Killa is your host and it also features Black Motion, LEIKELI47, MikeQ, and Anais B.

Also on Saturday is “JAZZ RE:FRESHED OUTERNATIONAL” at Baby’s All Right that features “artists at the frontline of the UK jazz revolution” including Moses Boyd Exodus, Native Dancer, and Shabaka Hutchings; “Afro Comedy” at Bedford Hall with Chloe Hilliard, Alex English, Janelle James and more; and the sold-out “New Wavey: Four On The Floor” dance party at The Emerson.

On Sunday (8/27) there are “The Shrine” at C’mon Everybody featuring afro beats, kompa, dancehall and reggae; and at Baby’s All Right it’s “BACK TO LIFE,” a recurring party which offers “taste of UK and British party culture with DJs Khalil & Pauli and some “very special guests.” (Was that party named after the song by British group Soul II Soul, who play Afropunk this year?)

Tickets for Afropunk After Dark events are on sale now and the full schedule of events is below.

Not an official Afropunk After Dark event but Pete Rock and Z-Trip will be DJing at Output on Saturday (tickets).
