Over the past few years, Afropunk has expanded and become one of the most eccentric festivals around. This year, celebrating their 12th anniversary, the shows will be held in Brooklyn, Paris and London. Past lineups have included artists ranging from legends such as Grace Jones, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, to the more heavy Cro-Mags, Death Grips, Suicidal Tendencies and even a rare performance by Ice-T’s Body Count. Some of the crowd may be sitting on a blanket on the back lawn, while others may be in a circle pit during a Bad Brains tribute. No matter how you choose to spend your day at AfroPunk, there are enough options to make it an enjoyable day at the park.

Especially this years lineup in Brooklyn which happens this weekend (Aug. 27 & 28) at Commodore Barry Park. Headliners include Ice Cube, TV On the Radio, Flying Lotus, Janelle Monae, Tyler the Creator and the Internet. But those aren’t the only big names this year: George Clinton, Earl Sweatshirt, Living Colour, Trash Talk and Thundercat (along with many others) will also be playing! Like I said, a very eccentric lineup.

To celebrate AfroPunk and their 12th annual festival, our Blog Radio show this week will be dedicated to them. The two-hour set will include artists from this years fest, as well as names that have played AP in the past. The BV Blog Radio: Afropunk Special premieres today (8/24) on SiriusXMU at noon and and repeats at midnight Eastern. The show will also be available OnDemand with the SiriusXM app.
