Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard announces debut solo LP & tour, shares song

Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard is embarking on a solo career, and her first solo album is called Jaime and due September 20 via ATO. The first single is “History Repeats,” which is part blues rock, part funk, and a little psychedelic too. Brittany says the song “is as much a personal song as it is a song about us as a human species. Our times of success may propel us forward, but our repeating failures hold us back from evolving into harmony.” Listen and check out the tracklist below.

The album title is named after Brittany’s sister, who died of cancer when they were still teenagers. “The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being,” Brittany says. “But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.”

Brittany also announced a solo tour, including shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, two nights at LA’s Theatre at Ace Hotel, The Atlanta edition of Afropunk, Austin’s ACL Festival, NYC’s Beacon Theatre on September 24, and more. Tickets for the NYC show go on sale Friday (6/28) at 10 AM with various presales starting today (6/25) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
